Wait, that sounded—”

“Is this because I asked you to be my first? To wait for me? For two whole weeks? Is that it?” She said it like she’d asked me to wait two whole minutes, and I couldn’t even keep it in my pants that long.

“No!” I insisted. This discussion had turned into an argument that had gone off the rails faster than the Snow Piercer train on judgement day and everyone screamed, screamed, screamed in terror as it went over the edge of the icy world. “Are you insane?!” I blurted. “Do you have any idea how many women I’ve turned down offering me sex since I got here? Hundreds, Oia!”

“Don’t do me any favors,” she snarked.

“Hundreds every single day! Literally hundreds!”

“It’s been four days, Tim. One, two, three, four,” she counted with hateful, schoolyard glee.

“This isn’t about sex!”

That was partially a lie.

Most men I knew would sprint blindly through a minefield for a chance to have sex with a supermodel, let alone ten or a hundred or a thousand. Forget billions. Let’s just say ten. Ten supermodels standing in the center of a minefield. You want ’em? They’re yours. All you gotta do is run into that minefield. I mean that literally. My life had been a minefield since meeting the Bombshells. Everywhere I went— Ka-BOOM! I almost got killed.

Since arriving on Zalaxia I had unwittingly sprinted into the middle of this damn minefield only to find the supermodels had run out of it at the behest of Oia. Worse, Oia wasn’t in the minefield with me. She’d left too. Because of her injuries, sex was the last thing on her mind. Honestly, sex with her hadn’t been the first thing on my mind recently, not when she looked like a melted face demon. Sure, she looked good now, and I firmly believed that once she was fully healed, she’d jetpack her way back into the minefield with me and take me out with her to have more supermodel sex than any man deserves. But that was nine days away, and I had a damn dragon chasing me around this damn Zalaxian minefield until then.

And if I was being completely candid, if Oia and I had been having nonstop, hot, wet space sex every day since we had gotten to Zalaxia — like we had back on the Artemis — I might not be thinking so hard about going home to Earth where getting laid wouldn’t get me killed. No, not might.

For sure.

Take for example tonight. Technically, last night after dinner. Then, if Oia and I had headed straight to bed for a marathon after-dinner sex session like a normal couple, I never would’ve gone out looking for Violet and met the Dragon God, would I? No. I would’ve stayed in bed with Oia for rounds two through ten of that marathon sex session.

See how these things tie together?

A good way for most women to keep most men from even thinking about leaving them was good sex. Just saying. Call me shallow or call me male, I don’t care. I deserved an Olympic Gold Medal in Abstinence for what I’d managed after five days here. I was starting to doubt I could go six for a variety of reasons. Scepter was threatening to detach for pinker pastures. Could you blame him? I certainly couldn’t. I was seriously considering granting him an extended leave of absence. A weekend hall pass wouldn’t do. He needed a damn sabbatical.

“What’s it about then,” Oia snarled, folding her arms defensively across her chest. “If it’s not my bruises or my teeth or me demanding I be your first, what is it, Tim? Tell me. What is so important on your home world you don’t want to be here? Hmm?”

“It’s…” I sighed, unwilling to unburden my mental man-rant from a moment ago on Oia. She didn’t deserve it. She was a freaking angel for picking me out of every other undeserving schlub on Earth instead of some Navy SEAL or MMA champion or Fortune 500 CEO who could run a planet.

Sirius said, “He bedded someone else already. One of his Shock Knights, probably. Now he’s leaving because he knows he skrucked up and got caught.”

“Did you?” Oia demanded.

“No!” I snorted. “Sirius has no idea what she’s talking about.”

“Liar,” Sirius sniffed. “Everyone is going to find out sooner or later when your first ten announce it to the entire planet.”

“Ten?” Oia huffed.

“No,” I shook my head. “Zero.” Turning to Sirius, I scowled, “Hey, Sirius?”

“Mmm?” she smirked.

“Do me a favor and shut the fuck up.”

She sneered, “I’d be glad to… never speak to you again.” She flopped down in bed, pulling the covers over her shoulder and turning her back to me. For someone who had been stomped nearly to death five days ago, she was healing remarkably quickly. According to Major Akeso, Sirius’ shifter genetics were partially responsible for that, as was Zalaxian medical technology.

Cygna said gently, “Tim, what is it? Please tell us.”

Venus said, “Yes, Tim. Tell us. Oia, please let him speak. Something is troubling him. I can tell.”

“She’s right,” I said.

“Well?” Oia prompted irritably.

I grimaced, “Someone wants me dead. Someone powerful. They said they’ll kill me if I don’t leave Zalaxia by tomorrow, which is later tonight. Or the next day at the outside. I’m not really sure. But soon.”

“Baron Crewd?” Oia offered.

“That’s nothing new,” Sirius said, her back still turned, “Crewd wants to kill every king of Zalaxia.”

“Not the Baron,” I sighed.

“Who, Tim?” Venus asked gently.

“This is going to sound incredibly stupid,” I said.

“It already does,” Sirius snarked.

“Hush!” Venus insisted. “Please tell us, Tim.”

I said, “A dragon. Some huge freaking dragon.”

“A dragon?!” Sirius laughed. “Now I know you’re lying.”

“I’m not lying,” I pleaded defensively. “When I was out in the jungle earlier, I found some ruins. A dragon temple of some kind. With a gigantic dragon statue. When I vectored myself over for a closer look, wham! This huge dragon comes out of nowhere, kicks my ass, and he was two
