“Damn it.” The words spit out of Emeric’s clenched teeth. He’s off his bike, his red essence blazing in his hands like fire. He throws a glowing ball toward the demons, and they dodge it with abnormal speed. Claws extend from their leathery tan skin, their red eyes glowing like burning embers.
Dropping my helmet to the ground, I release the magic from my hands. The demon closest to me is thrown back as my essence bursts out in front of him. A second demon is coming after Emeric, but as it nears, he releases another fiery ball of essence, and it slams into the demon’s chest, obliterating the demon from the inside out. The demon’s screeching pierces my ears as he burns to ash.
A third demon comes at me like the glowing headlights of a speeding car. Emeric jumps in front of me and is slammed to the ground, sharp teeth gnawing at his neck. Fear clenches my chest tight, but I keep releasing the magic at the first demon who attacked me. The demon struggles to fight against my magic, unable to reach me. Keeping one hand out, I hold him in place, then lower my other hand, tossing the demon on top of Emeric onto the ground. Emeric unleashes another ball of essence, and the demon screeches as he turns to ash.
The demon I’ve held back turns to run but is caught between us and a silver circle amassing in thin air. Cyrus and Griffin slip through the portal just as the demon runs toward the building wall next to us, launches off of it, toward me, his claws slashing across my arm. My body collapses, my magic fading as searing heat scorches my arm.
Cyrus utters a spell, unleashes his silver essence, and the demon drops to the ground, writhing as my surroundings slip away.
Emeric
“What were you thinking taking her to a supernatural club?” Cyrus’s disapproving tone sends a spasm of pain between my temples.
“Stop nagging, you’re giving me a headache.” Cyrus lays another glob of goo on Selene’s arm as I touch my thumb to her pale cheek. “When will she wake up?”
“Once the toxin is out of her system.”
“They found her faster than I expected.” Griffin is sitting in a chair, facing the bed he’d prepared for Selene. Worry wrinkles the corner of his eyes as he takes another drink of liquor. He hasn’t said much to me, so that means he’s pissed. Not that I give a fuck. She’s mine as much as theirs, and I’m not going to keep her in a Fae forest bubble like Griffin wants to.
“You can’t hide her from them. She has a life in New York. I doubt she’s ready to give it up and live on an island with zero technology and five horny assholes.”
Cyrus and Griffin pass a glance to each other.
“We know.” Griffin sets his empty glass on the floor. “We need to ensure one of us is always with her.”
“Yeah, she’ll love that.” Scoffing, I drop into the chair I set at the end of her bed.
“What do you suggest then?” Cyrus frowns as he sets the gooey ointment on the nightstand, then wipes his hands on a rag.
“We wait until she wakes up and discuss the options with her. You need to quit making decisions for her.”
“And you think you know what’s best for her after spending a day with her?”
“Don’t get your panties in a twist because we’ve bonded more than you have.”
“Did you have sex with her?”
“Do you see giant fucking wings behind my head?”
“That’s enough,” Griffin interjects lazily. “We need to find a way to get along, all of us, or we’ll end up pushing her away. When she wakes up, we’ll discuss options with her and figure out what she’s comfortable with.”
“Fine, but I’m not going to sit here and mope with the two of you.”
“Where are you going?” Griffin’s brows rise as I rub my fingers over the talisman hanging from my neck.
“To get her paint supplies. This yellow room is hideous.”
CHAPTER TWELVE
SELENE
As I wake, there’s a familiar scent of sand and saltwater, and a warm tingling energy cocoons me. Moving to look behind me wakes Griffin. With essence glowing in his hand, he caresses along my side.
“I missed you.”
Turning to face him, he tucks me tighter into his arms. Caressing my hand along his face, I watch his eyes shimmer with the pretty oceanic blue.
“I missed you, too.”
His fervent kiss clouds my mind with the memory of our night together. Lust is a torturous greedy need waking inside of me. Tugging at his shirt, I slip my hand into his shorts, and he moans the moment my hand fists his growing erection.
Palming my bra-covered breast, he deepens our kiss with his slow, sensual cadence. Withdrawing from his shorts, I unfasten the button and zipper, and he follows my lead, removing my clothes. Taking off his shirt, he strips the rest of the way down, then helps me remove my bra, so I don’t smear the paste on my arm.
I imagine it was Cyrus who bandaged me up. I’ll have to thank him later. Right now, all I want is Griffin making love to me.
Lying between my legs, Griffin presses his erection against my clit as his tongue invades my mouth, creating little flicks of pleasure in each movement. When I moan into his mouth and thrust my hips up, he responds to my need, sliding into me. An immediate rush of satisfaction overwhelms my body and continues with each thrust of his hips.
Time lapses unknowingly as we relish in the pleasure we give each other’s bodies. As long as I’m with Griffin, the outside world ceases to exist. It’s only he and I and the carnality of our desires.
Several orgasms later, our exhausted bodies are intertwined and unmoving on the bed. Griffin caresses his hand up and down my
