“Call the fence company and tell them what you want. Or call the garden center and ask them to plant prickly and fibrous foliage that deer don’t like, so then you can remove the deer fence altogether.”
“She’ll run all over the ranch, then. I’ll never find her.”
“Call the fence company and tell them you want an invisible fence. That’ll keep her contained.”
“That makes sense. I’ll call both companies later.” She dropped her robe and climbed back into bed naked. “Isn’t she precious?”
“Yes, you are,” he said, breathing in the sweet scent of the roses on Ensley’s skin. Maybe chasing the dog in and out of the garden wasn’t so bad after all.
She kissed him, and the kiss turned greedy, which he loved. Every taste of her made him want the next one more. She pushed past his lips, and he teased her, opening just briefly to let her lick her way into his mouth, dominating the kiss once she was where he wanted her.
When she came up for air, she said, “Thank you for everything. I didn’t know I could ever be so happy.”
“Yeah, I’ve heard that from lots of hip replacement patients.”
“HRPs have to stick together.”
“Is that a patient code?” He stroked and caressed her curves, and she arched into him as he gently massaged her breast the way she liked it and then teased his thumb over the taut peak.
“If it’s not, it should be… The code, I mean.”
She wrapped her hand around his shaft, mimicking the way he stroked her, clearly trying to torture him. His head dropped back as she stunned him into stillness.
“…because we never know when we’ll need to borrow a walker…”
His pulse knocked so hard against his throat that all he could do was lie there.
“…to get to the kitchen for energy treats.”
And he listened while she continued, muttering about walkers and kitchens while her melodic voice and teasing fingers pinned him in place. As much as it turned him on to let her take the lead and have her way with him, he could only take so much.
Maddie jumped off the bed, jumped up, jumped down a third, fourth, fifth time as if playing with an invisible playmate. Austin threw the tennis ball across the room. It bounced out into the hall, and, as he predicted, Maddie chased after it.
“O’Grady hits two from the corner,” Ensley said, humming against his neck.
“Three from the corner.”
“Oh, my bad.”
While the dog was out of the room, he took advantage of the time alone and moved Ensley’s hand off his shaft. The stroking was short-circuiting his brain, and all he could think about was being inside of her.
She frowned. “You’re stopping me?”
“This time, yes. I want to last a little bit longer because this is your day.” He pulled her over on top of him, and his shaft inched into her tight, hugging entrance agonizingly slowly, in what he now referred to as her torture move. All the while, he struggled not to let his erection take control and thrust into her, rushing toward the end before she was ready.
She leaned forward and teased his nipples. “Why do you wax the hairs on your chest?”
He gave her his what-the-fuck look that he usually reserved for the basketball court. “Seriously? You’re sitting on my cock and thinking about my chest hair or lack thereof?”
She got on her knees and eased back down on him—slowly. “I’ve thought of it before, but when I do, I’m usually not clicking on very many cylinders.”
“For inquiring minds, I’ll share a secret. NBA regulation jerseys have small holes in them, and sometimes hairs get caught in the holes, and it pulls and hurts. I eliminated the problem after my first year.”
“You’re making that up.”
“Nope. It’s true.” He palmed her ass, lifted her, and withdrew to the tip of his erection. “I liked the look—”
She gasped and flexed her hips until her core gripped his entire length. “What look?”
He chuckled. “A shaved chest.” He lifted her and tortured her with a slow withdrawal, then brought her hips down so he could plunge into her again. Torture worked both ways.
“Oh, now I remember,” she moaned.
“You get distracted when I do this”—he palmed her ass again and took control of the rhythm—“I’d gotten so used to the look that after I stopped playing, I kept having it done and eventually manscaped the rest of my body hair.”
“You’re all neat and tidy. I like that.”
Ensley moaned again as she fought for control of the rhythm, and since she wanted to ride him faster, he dropped his hands and folded them behind his head to watch her breasts bounce. Damn, she was sexy.
She stopped. “Wait a minute. Back up. I got distracted. Why is this my day?”
The pause nearly killed him, so he gripped her ass again, urging her to keep riding him. “You don’t remember”—he gasped—“do you?”
“Nope. Nothing comes to mind.”
“Okay, we’ll talk later.” He was done talking and wanted to get on with the business at hand. He gripped her hips tighter, sliding her faster…
“Is this an anniversary?”
When she was on top, he was all hers. Those were the rules, but it was time to add a new one about interrupting the flow with senseless chatter, unless it was erotic, provocative, or a request to do something different, and he was always ready for that.
“We met five months ago today, sweetheart. And this is agony, so can we—”
“Okay.” She began to ride him again but not fast enough to suit him. “How can you remember that?”
“Blessed Jesus, Ensley. You’re driving me nuts. I’ve trained my mind to remember numbers, dates, stats, and how many eggs go in a cake.”
“Oh, you have not.”
Maddie returned with the tennis ball, jumped up on the bed, and dropped it on Austin’s chest. He picked up the soggy ball. “The entire world is conspiring against me right now.”
He threw it again, and the puppy ran off to chase it. “Call the fence
