you. I’ve never…” Emily’s words trailed off again as her heart rate sped into overdrive. Liam brought his hand to her face and smoothed her hair back. “I’m a virgin,” she whispered and threw her head back against the door. Emily closed her eyes, not able to meet Liam’s gaze.

She felt his lips brush her cheek gently and make their way to the corner of her mouth. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about,” he told her.

“It’s weird, I know,” she said in a long breath.

“What?” Liam said, shocked.

“Liam, I’m thirty-two years old and a virgin. It’s weird,” Emily stated.

“No, baby. It’s anything but weird. Unusual, maybe. Weird? Not at all. You said you dated that dipshit phycologist, and I just assumed—”

Emily held her hand up to stop him. “We dated for a few weeks. He was the first serious boyfriend, if you want to even call him that—”

“I’m not calling him that,” Liam interrupted.

Emily laughed before continuing, “He was the first guy I considered to have been a boyfriend. I never dated in high school. And in college, I went on a couple of dates but nothing ever serious. Every time I was interested in someone, all of the activity around me would pick up. So, I would just forget about it and go about my life. I never slept with the phycologist. I never wanted to. I’m not saving myself for marriage or anything. I just haven’t found the right person. Until…now.”

Liam took her hand and led her to his sofa. He settled them both much like he had the night before, on their sides, with Emily’s back against the cushions. Her front pressed against his front, and her head cradled in his arm. “We’ll go as slow as you need to. I’m not going to pressure you. Just having you here in my arms feels like heaven.”

Emily relaxed, letting out a long breath. A few moments passed before Liam spoke again. “Are you sure you’re okay with tonight?”

She lifted her head to look at him. “I am. Truthfully, I don’t want to be alone. I’ll feel better if I’m at least near you guys. I’ll admit, I’m nervous as hell, but I want to know what is going on. And like you said, if this thing is focusing around me, maybe me doing the investigation with you three will help get answers faster.”

“What about trying to find your birth parents? Are you still okay with that?”

“Yeah. I’m okay with finding out who they were. But if we do locate them, I don’t want to talk to them.”

“Don’t worry. Me and the guys will figure something out. If you don’t want to see or talk to them, then you won’t have to.”

“What will happen tonight?” Emily asked as she lay her head back down.

Liam tightened his grip around her and said, “It will take a bit to get set up. We’ll set up different cameras and make sure everything is working right. Then we’ll go over a plan of action as to how to start. We’ll show you how to use the full spectrum camera. I just want you to take pictures. If you feel something or have an urge to take a photo, take it. We’ll let you know if we need you to take a photo of a particular spot. It will be very dark. We investigate in full darkness, but we’ll have night vision cameras so we can navigate. Just stay close to me. It will be okay.”

“Alright. I can do that.” Her breathing had finally calmed, and she yawned. “I’m so tired.”

“Sleep. We have a long night ahead of us. Let’s take a nap. When we wake up, we’ll eat and get started.” Liam grabbed the comforter that he’d left from the previous night and covered them. Within minutes they were both asleep.

Pictures flashed in his consciousness, taking him back to the night when his ability to make choices freely was stripped, trapping him within the walls of a home once belonging to him. He had chosen to stay behind, but it was the seeing woman who cursed him, confining him to the building.

Over the years, he had grown stronger. Using his power to see outside of the confines of the house. When he sensed the aura of his love returning to the Earth, his ability to subconsciously travel allowed him to keep watch. Only something consistently worked against him. It held him back, keeping his grasp on her, yet at the same time, just out of reach.

Now, she had returned and was in his territory, where he was strongest. He would have her. Eventually, she would fully belong to him.

“S

o basically, the full spectrum is just a modified camera that allows for more UV and IR light to pass through and allows an image of a spirit to be captured.”

“Right,” Emily held her hand out to Liam. “It looks just like a regular point and shoot camera.”

“It is.” Liam placed the camera in her hand. “It has an SD card and a fully charged battery. But, I’ll give you this.” He picked up a large fanny pack and unlatched the buckle. Liam guided the straps around Emily’s waist and connected the two ends, adjusting the straps so it sat comfortably on her waist. “There are extra batteries and SD cards in here. Sometimes on investigations, spirits will drain batteries from electronics and mess with the way they work. If that happens, switch out whatever you need, and we will question it later.

“Alright.”

“I think we should start here at Emily’s since this is where the most activity has happened,” Liam announced. They all agreed, and when Luke returned from making sure all of the lights were off in the building, they got started.

Just like on every other investigation, Liam took the lead and began asking questions using the EVP recorder.

“Tell us your name?”

“Why are you following Emily?”

They used almost every piece of equipment they had during the first
