shut the door. Damn that

smile.

I went back downstairs and fixed her a plate of eggs. She came down and sat at the island. I slid the

plate in front of her, and she looked at me with a surprised look on her face. She asked me if I made

everything myself, and I told her that I had. She seemed surprised at the fact that I can cook. I brought

my plate and sat down on the stool next to her. She looked over at me as she took a bite of her eggs,

and with a smirk on her face, she asked me if she had harmed me in any way last night. I wanted to

tell her that I had wished she wouldโ€™ve, but instead I decided to play with her a bit.

โ€œNo, in fact, you put your arms around me, started rubbing my chest, and calling me Peyton. I was

quite turned on.โ€

The look on her face was amusing. Her jaw dropped, and her eyes widened. She was so damn cute

that I couldnโ€™t help but smile. She knew at that moment that I was joking, and she went to playfully

smack me on the arm. I grabbed her hands before she could hit me and looked at the scars on her

wrist. Our playful mood turned serious as I stared at them for a moment. I dropped her hands, got up

with my plate, and headed towards the sink.

โ€œMy scars really bug you, donโ€™t they?โ€ she asked in a serious tone.

โ€œThey sadden me, thatโ€™s all,โ€ I replied as I put the plate in the dishwasher.

โ€œWhy, Connor? I didnโ€™t even know you when this happened. Why would my scars sadden you so

much?โ€ she asked.

I kept my back turned to her as I stared out the window. โ€œIt saddens me that someone could think so

little of their life to want to do such a thing.โ€ I know that was the wrong thing to say, and I probably

shouldnโ€™t have said it.

โ€œI told you why I did it, and it wasnโ€™t because I thought so little of my life. I did it to lessen the pain

for my father, and how dare you, Connor Black,โ€ she started to cry.

She got up from the stool and walked out of the kitchen. I didnโ€™t mean to upset her, but I had. I ran

after her, grabbed her, and pulled her into a warm embrace.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, I didnโ€™t mean it; I swear I didnโ€™t. I just get sad when I see them because it reminds me

of what you went through,โ€ I whispered in her ear. I regretted every word that I had said. She looked

up at me as I gently wiped away a few tears that had fallen from her eyes.

โ€œItโ€™s ok; letโ€™s just forget about it and head out,โ€ she said.

I put my forehead on hers. โ€œIโ€™m an insensitive bastard.โ€

She lightly smiled as she whispered, โ€œYouโ€™re in luck as Iโ€™m quite fond on insensitive bastards.โ€

My first thought was to kiss her lips. I wanted to feel them against mine, but I had to hold myself

back. It was getting harder and harder each day to control myself with her, especially after last night.

So, I opted for her head instead. I kissed her gently on the head and smiled at her. When the moment

passed, we headed to the Range Rover to start our road trip to Michigan.

I threw our bags in the back as Ellery settled in comfortably. As I started driving, I looked over and

noticed that she was staring at me. She didnโ€™t care that I noticed, because every time I glanced over,

she was still watching me.

โ€œWhy are you staring at me?โ€ I grinned.

โ€œI was just wondering about Connor Black, thatโ€™s all.โ€

I sighed and looked back at the road. She wasnโ€™t going to give up until she found out more about

me. I know I need to open up to her, and I will; just not right now. She put her headphones on and

stared out the passenger window. I could tell she was irritated with my response. I tapped her on the

shoulder; she looked at me and took her earphones off.

โ€œAre you going to ignore me the whole way there?โ€ I asked her.

โ€œAre you going to tell me a little bit about Connor Black?โ€ she smiled in a cocky way.

My god this girl was starting to piss me off, but in a sexy way. I sighed and tried to think about

what I should tell her or better yet, where I should start. She turned her head and put in her

headphones again. I was not about to be ignored by her, especially for the next 10 hours because sheโ€™s

too damn stubborn to respect my privacy. I reached over and yanked out one of her headphones.

โ€œHey, what the hell, Connor?โ€

โ€œTake those things out you stubborn girl, and Iโ€™ll talk,โ€ I smiled.

She knew she won, and I bet she did it on purpose. There was no getting around not telling her

something about me or else she would make me suffer. I started with the story about my twin brother,

Collin and how he died when he was seven years old from a virus that attacked his heart. After I was

finished explaining the story about Collin, I told her about Cassidy and her son Camden. I explained

how Camden is autistic, and that heโ€™s the reason my company and I are involved with the charity for

autism. She gave me a sympathetic look as she put her hand on my shoulder and started rubbing it. She

cared; I could see it in
