I nod eagerly and hold my hands out so he can help me out of bed.

While weβre working on my Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them thousand-piece puzzle, Max calls. Daddy sets his phone on the puzzle table and taps on the speaker while he continues to hand me pieces to fill in Newt Scamanderβs sleeve.
βTwenty-three Wilsons on Rickβs fucking list, but it could be two hundred and twenty-three βcause he doesnβt have last names for half these girls,β Max says.
βYeah, I know,β Daddy responds. βBut letβs start with the Wilsons we have.β
βIβll get you what I can, man. Without addresses for most of them, itβs going to be pretty fucking thin.β
βUnderstood. Thanks for this, Max. NYPD is on it but I feel better knowing you are, too.β Daddy watches me pop in three pieces and reaches across the table to brush his knuckles down my cheek. βClever girl.β
βHope youβre talking to Emily rather than me,β says Max.
I giggle. βHe was.β
βYeah? What have you done now, clever girl?β
βFound three pieces of the puzzle weβre doing.β I turn another piece around as I try to find the right spot for it. βDaddy says youβre coming to playgroup with us on Sunday.β
Logan chuckles.
βI havenβt decided,β Max says.
βWeβre making pizza,β I tell him, slotting in another puzzle piece. βI donβt eat pizza and Daddy canβt eat a whole pizza on his own. Too much cholesterol. If you donβt come, the pizzaβs going to waste. Also, if you were going to be there, then Iβd have a reason to bring some green tea cupcakes.β
Max swears softly. βYou know how much I like those.β
I do.
βWith the cream-cheese frosting,β I say.
βThatβs bribery,β Max says. βIsnβt that against the rules?β
Logan laughs. βDefinitely not. Emmy can bribe anyone anytime she wants, particularly if I get leftover cupcakes. Cβmon, mate, itβll be fun.β
βSwear you wonβt try to set me up with anyone,β Max growls.
βI swear,β Daddy says.
I put in another puzzle piece and carefully avoid making any promises because there are two unattached littles in the group that I really, really want Max to meet.
βEmily,β Max grumbles.
Damn, heβs just as observant as Daddy. Itβs not fair.
βI have a really sore throat, Max.β I fake a cough. βHard to talk.β
βI only need one word.β
I fake another cough, trying to make it sound even more pathetic than the first.
βEmmy,β Daddy warns. βThe sore throatβs not a lie, but that cough definitely is.β
βSorry, Daddy.β I blink at him beseechingly. βItβs just that I really want Max to meet Amy and Cynnie but I donβt want to make a promise and then break it.β
Daddy gives me a very stern face.
βNo, baby girl. I promised Max we werenβt going to push. If he meets Amy and Cynnie while weβre there, thatβs great, but weβre not forcing anything.β
I give him the puppy dog eyes again, and, when Daddyβs expression doesnβt soften, my best pout. βCynnieβs really lonely now that she doesnβt have a daddy anymore, and she only needs spankings to keep her in line. Max wouldnβt have to give her a paddling or a caning.β
βEm-i-lee.β
I know by the way he says my name that heβs losing patience. βSorry, Daddy.β
βPromise Max,β Daddy insists.
βI promise, Max.β
βThank you, Em. Iβll see you guys on Sunday. I still want those cupcakes. I might even be convinced to share one with your friend.β
I wiggle in my comfy bean bag chair, in part because Iβm getting my way and in part because I need a bathroom break after two cups of tea and a glass of orange juice. βThank you, Max.β
Max chuckles. βBehave, sweets, youβre killing me. Logan, Iβll send you whatever Iβve got tomorrow.β
βSounds good, mate.β
Daddy taps off the phone and lifts an eyebrow at me. βWhat are you playing at, baby doll?β
βMax is a daddy and Cynnie needs a new daddy and if he doesnβt like Cynnie then he might like Amy and she needs a new daddy, too.β
βI understand that Cynnie and Amy are looking for new daddies, but I promised Max we wouldnβt try to set him up. You have to help Daddy keep his promises, sweetheart.β
I melt. Of course, I want to help Daddy keep his promises.
βIβm sorry, Daddy. Iβll help you keep your promise and I wonβt say anything to Cynnie and Amy if you donβt want me to.β
βYou can point them out to Max, but no trying to throw them together.β
βYes, Daddy. Sorry.β
Daddyβs mouth twitches and I know heβs fighting a smile. Heβs not angry with me. βYou ready to have some lunch and then weβll head over to the Museum? Mannyβs picking up Jiro and Laurel at the airport and bringing them straight to the Museum so they have plenty of time to meet the Rexes and still hit the shops.β
I would bounce in my seat if my bottom wasnβt so sore. βCould I bring Laurel one of my little Larrys?β
I have a whole herd of stuffed T-Rexes in different colors that Iβve bought at the museum. If Daddy approves, Iβll take Laurel a purple one. Theyβre the best.
βIβm sure sheβd like that. I donβt know if I told you, but Laurelβs a pet.β
βLike a furry?β I ask, trying to remember the pets Iβve met at dungeon parties and munches. There donβt seem to be any pets at Blunts, although I know there are two pony-girls I havenβt met. Iβm not sure if theyβre pets, though.
βIβm not sure if sheβs a furry or if sheβs just wholly owned, but her Dom said sheβs a pet all the time and sheβd be comfortable with you both as my little and as a kinky, ninja puppy at Rickβs party.β
That idea does make me bounce, then wince and whimper.
Daddy slides around the table and pulls me into his arms. βEasy does it. I know youβre excited, but no more bruising my babyβs sweet bottom. Thatβs Daddyβs job.β
That makes me giggle against his neck as I snuggle into him.
