mean, they’ll get lonely there without the matching bra.

And there it is. The hook.

Asha: You couldn’t think up anything better than that? Like you are giving those panties back to me anyway.

What is it with guys and trophies? I’ve often wondered. Although there is a part of me tingling at the thought of him having a piece of me in his house.

Kurt: Okay then, straight up. Come to my place tonight, and I’ll cook you dinner.

Asha: Just dinner?

Kurt: You know there is always going to be dessert, never doubt that!

Asha: Okay, it’s a date then.

Kurt: Look at us all grown up and admitting we’re dating.

Asha: Oh my god, you’re crazy.

Kurt: Sorry, I should have probably mentioned that earlier.

Asha: Because I’m completely normal…

Kurt: That’s okay, we can be crazy together. Deal?

You have no idea how crazy this could get, but sure.

Asha: Deal. Now go work. I have some sex to write about!

Kurt: You love torturing me, don’t you!!

Asha: Yep, get used to it. Talk soon.

Kurt: Me and my dick aren’t sure we can cope, but we’ll try. See you soon.

It’s like he has a sixth sense when it comes to me and feeling anxious. He always manages to calm me and make me laugh. Now, back to writing while I’m warm and fuzzy. Block out any other thoughts and get the words out.

The serenity only lasts another hour and then the knock on the door and Davina’s voice brings the mood right back to this morning, my nerves going and palms feeling sweaty.

Opening up the door, I see exactly the expression I was expecting on both their faces. Sadness from Davina and annoyance from Scott. Him I can’t give a fuck about, but Davina I don’t want to disappoint.

“What a surprise, I wasn’t thinking I would see you today.” Both of them walk straight in past me holding the door. Like I had a choice of even letting them in. They control my life, and as much as I like to think of this as home, it’s never going to be mine. It’s just temporary, like all the others. I feel like I’ve been all over the country, but I have to admit, this is far better than the houses I’ve stayed at in Texas and Kansas.

“Don’t try to be funny, Asha, you knew you were getting a visit the moment Scott saw his truck here this morning. Sit, it’s time for a chat.” Davina is already sitting at the dining room table, and Scott stands behind her with his arrogant stance. Like he has run to the boss and complained at the way Kurt embarrassed him this morning by calling him out on his inappropriate visit.

“Asha?” Davina looks up at me, waiting.

“Why? What do I need to sit for? I already know what you’re going to say to me. I’ve heard it all before. Don’t make friends, don’t get attached, keep to yourself. You never know when you will have to leave. Well, you know what? I’ve had fucking enough of it.” Davina’s mouth drops in shock and the asshole behind her just smirks at me like, Here we go, she’s going to throw a tantrum.

I’m pacing now, trying to get my words straight before I start. I know once I open my mouth again, the words will just start spewing out and won’t stop.

“Asha, let’s talk about this. Just calm down and sit with me. We can work this out.” Her pleading just makes me more worked up.

“No, it’s time for you to listen. I have lived in this bubble for the last four years of my life. Moving around, never having anyone to talk to, except you—which I’m grateful for, but it’s not enough. Not that you need to know this, but I haven’t had sex in a very long time or even been kissed or hugged. Do you know how that feels! No, you don’t, because you get to go home and live your normal life. So, don’t you even tell me that I need to stop seeing Kurt, because I’m not listening. He is nice to me, and I’ve felt happier than I have since that fucking night my whole world fell apart. I just want to feel normal, and I know it can’t last forever, but that’s my choice, not yours. You want me to testify and be a witness, then you let me do this. Otherwise, all deals are off the table. I don’t care if I have to run for the rest of my life, if that’s what it takes to get this one moment in time where I feel treasured.” There are tears in my eyes as I just stare at both of them. I physically can’t move. The rage that is building behind the tears is huge.

“Whoa, Asha. You are being irrational. Settle the hell down.” She stands to come to me, and my hand shoots out to stop her.

“Don’t even think about it! I’m being irrational? Are you fucking kidding me! I live in a world where I can’t see my family—in fact, I don’t even know if they are alive or dead. No communication whatsoever. And for once in my life, I have someone I can be close to. Who cares about me! Who stood up for me this morning when your little sidekick here turned up to my house in the dark, bashing on my door! What the fuck was that about?” I’m screaming now, and I don’t care who hears me.

“You had a strange car outside your house in the early hours of the morning, of course I’m going to check on you,” Scott grunts at me. “I was doing my job! Besides, you think he cares about you? You know nothing about him.”

“Scott, enough. Let me handle this.” Davina glares at him.

“Yeah, Scott, just shut up. I don’t want to talk to you about this. Surely you’ve already done one of your super background checks on him by now anyway. You probably know everything
