“Kill twenty each, or I won’t play with you tomorrow,” she told her guys.
They only replied with laughter, but she knew they would do it.
My guys are the best guys.

“Five Golems spotted in the inner city and Hollows all over.”
Pasquale cursed at the transmission. The Lombardi lands were in full battle, wolves and mages alike trying to keep things contained, if the messages were clear enough. He and Giuliana hadn’t been home yet. They’d decided to spend some time with Kalinda and Silva before heading back for the night. Now, they raced down the highway, dodging the bastards as they went.
“I know you want to get home, but Fabiana needs our help,” Giuliana argued.
Pasquale clenched his teeth. He still didn’t like riding in cars, but running all the way to the Mage Council Headquarters would have been ridiculous. At least now he could be happy they were in a vehicle to get where they needed to go.
Of course, Giuliana wasn’t taking them back to Pack lands.
“I’m an Alpha under Dominic and we have the Bianchi to worry about.”
“And they are fine. Ciro is already there directing them, and we’d have two hours, on a good day, to get there. We could get to Fabiana in ten.”
“My Alpha—”
“Your sister is more important right now. Look, I know, Pasquale. I know you want to get to her. I know you chose to stay with the Lombardi instead of taking the Bianchi somewhere else to make sure I wasn’t removed from my home. I love you for it, I do. But right now I’m going to do this for you. If something happened to your sister, you’d never forgive yourself.”
She was right, and he couldn’t argue with her, not that he ever could. Still, his sense of loyalty warred within him. His sister, or his Alpha? It was an impossible choice.
“Pasquale, how close are you to Fabiana?”
He sucked in a breath at Dominic’s voice. “Nine minutes now.”
“Check in with me regarding her and Adonis’s status when you get there.”
And there was his answer.
“Told ya,” Giuliana quipped.
“I will.”
Pasquale focused on his gear. The Hollows were weak to claws and old-fashioned steel. He wasn’t ready for battle the way he’d prefer, but he never went anywhere without being equipped for danger. Enforcers never did, and he and Giuliana had been just that for their respective Alphas, and they still moved the same way as Alpha and Alpha mate.
“Adonis, we’re close.”
“I’ve killed I don’t know how many and they keep coming. They have something else. I don’t even know what it is.”
“Tell me,” Zahara called out.
“It looks like a bone dinosaur, but the head is more like a seal.”
“She brough’ a Zealot. Stay away, I’m comin’.”
“What the fuck is a Zealot?”
“Somet’ing dead t’at should ’ave stayed dat way.”
Giuliana pressed on the gas, whizzing through traffic at breakneck speed.
“Adonis, we’ll be there in three. Hold on.”
Kalinda pulled what she knew, listening to the airwaves. She had no idea what a Zealot was, but with Silva at her side, she could find out and be there to meet Zahara.
“Kalinda.”
“Hold on, Silva. I’m searching the archives.”
It wasn’t like this stuff had an alphabetized order to it. She went for attacks first, streaming through the file names hoping to find something. She was going to have to get Lennox, Amalia, and Yon transferring things over to electronic format.
“Kalinda.”
“Don’t try to stop me from going.”
No one had time to be flipping through old books when a battle waged outside. She felt for her mages, who were waiting for another surprise attack—Skuld’s modus operandi—but she’d also been gone long enough that no one could predict anything. With luck, the alarms and drills got them on their feet and the lower levels moving to shelter.
“Kalinda!”
Kalinda stopped and glanced up at Silva. She was wrapped in her silver armor, with her blade she could melt and move at will at her side. Behind her, Heath, Kallan, and Teague waited. The Unseelie males were naturally pale, but their pallor now was frightening.
“What is it?”
Romano slipped into the room. More often than not, her mate stayed by her side at the Mage Headquarters. It made things a bit difficult for Romano and the day-to-day running with his pack, but he’d lose his mind if he wasn’t beside her in case something went down. He was more comfortable with Pasquale being there and playing relay between them when needed.
The pale scars on his face stood out against his cheek, but it didn’t take away from his good looks. She was happy he would be here beside her. The way the Fae looked right now, she just knew this was about to be bad.
Ugly bad.
“The Zealot is called a Karnistalor, for us. The Unseelie tell tales of it,” Silva began.
“What sort of beast is it? Are you saying it’s from Fae lands?”
Silva nodded. “Kalinda … if she opened the road from Fae to the human world, there are untold creatures she can bring through. The Karnistalor is fabled as the Balance Maker.”
Kalinda pressed her lips together and took a deep breath. “The one who holds it reigns, wins the war.”
A portal cracked open in the room, swirling with blue, purple, and red. A massive werewolf stepped through, a howl on his lips before Nanshe followed.
“We tried to warn you, but it wasn’t fast enough. Kalinda, she didn’t travel through the In Between. Skuld was hiding in Seraph.”
The Seelie Fae territory.
Kalinda’s brows shot up to her hairline. “I thought all the doors were closed from Fae to here. How did
