turn.”

She guffawed and then shook her head. “You wish you could have my pussy for breakfast. Nope, sorry. I know I’m being selfish but that’s how today’s going to be.”

I laughed, and kissed her, earning a giggle from her as she squirmed and ran her hands along my chest. “You were sexy as hell, all ‘ooh,’ and ‘ahhh’ just now.”

“Shut up.” I hadn’t even realized I’d been making those sounds.

She pulled me in for another kiss, then managed a maneuver that flipped me back, half-boner flapping from side to side and earning another laugh. When she was up and moving for the door, I was about to run after her still nude, when she held out a hand. “Remember where we are.”

The grogginess now gone, it hit me. We’d made our way to another safe house, where the last two days since the incident at the convention center had been spent with Myths gathering for the big fight to come. Part of me wanted to relax and make love all day—a large part of me—and maybe paint each other as we’d done in the other house. But we had an immediate goal now, a possible attack incoming any day. We were setting up defenses, pairing up teams based on classes and power levels, and setting up lookouts and scouts.

All this in preparation for King Arthur to come for his sword and, presumably, to try and kill us all. With Morganna’s help, of course. Not the real Morganna. Well, kind of… it was all so confusing. Did Riak, taking the power from a dead Morganna for herself, count as her now being the real Morganna? I supposed it did. In a sense, Riak—sister of Pucky—was dead, Morganna having replaced her.

This could also explain why Pucky was acting so giddy and giving. Everyone had their own defense mechanisms. Could wanting to give pleasure to those around her be Pucky’s? Not bad for me, but I wanted to be sure she wasn’t keeping it all inside.

“If you need someone to talk with,” I started, but she gave me a look that said to stop right there.

“My sister went dark a long time ago. Nothing new in this situation, other than her being more of a threat that we need to stop.”

I nodded, giving her space, trying to figure out from her expression if this was how she really felt. “Why?” I finally asked.

“Why do they do it?” She waited until I nodded, then explained, “For some it’s about power. Some, like Sharon, get kind of taken over. They try to fight it, but unless they have a real connection, like we have, it’s hard to fight. I think that’s what helped you. You had something to fight for.”

That made sense. I could see losing myself if I didn’t have these ladies at my side when everything had been going crazy. “And… your sister?”

“Power. She tasted it early on. We both did when we were sent to the Fae world for training, as many Druids must.”

I waited, eyeing her. She had to know that statement needed more story to it.

Finally she sighed, rubbed her hands together, and said, “It’s not a big deal, really. This is something Druids do. We have to connect with nature, and that means finding that connection to the spirit world, or the land of the Fae. It also means… temptation.”

“In what way?”

She scrunched her nose. “Like an alcoholic, I guess. Well, drugs are a better analogy, because being drunk doesn’t really give you power, but in ways certain drugs do. You try a new pill, it makes your mind clear, makes you able to do things you couldn’t before… even not feel pain. It’s great, right? But not if you get addicted to it, not if you abuse it.”

“The shadows… when it had me, I didn’t feel like an addict.”

“It’s not a perfect analogy,” she said.

“No, but I get it. There’s no… I don’t know… rehab for this?”

“As I said, my sister chose this path long ago.” Pucky motioned for me to follow her. “Let’s get some breakfast and forget about Riak, and focus instead on how to take down Morganna.”

I followed, very much aware that those two were one and the same. But if she was going to be in denial over that fact, I could at least leave it alone for now. When the time came, though, I wasn’t about to shoot first and ask questions later. If we could somehow get through to her sister, as I believed was possible after seeing Sharon come to our side, I wanted to ensure that would happen.

“Can we just…” She stopped me in the hallway, turning to grab me by the collar and pull me close, “…focus on the fact that I woke you up with a blowjob?” Her grin was infectious, assisted by the memory of that blowjob. “I think that’s enough, no?” I laughed, the bullshit of those dark thoughts fading, and she laughed, nudging me in the side as she added, “But you fucking owe me.”

“I’ll deliver right here, right now,” I said, kneeling and burying my face in her pants, nose nuzzling her.

“Real nice,” Elisa said, walking past and patting my head as she went. “If I’d known that was for breakfast, I would’ve come sooner.”

We stumbled out into the kitchen, laughing, my arm around Pucky and Elisa shooting me a wink as she went for the coffee pot. Red was watching something on the tablet in front of her, her back turned to us. We were in a small dining area on the third floor of this safe house over in Arcadia. Not so far from where we’d been, but enough distance to give us space in case there were problems.

I glanced over her shoulder and saw news coverage of what they were calling the ‘convention center riots’, making it look like some conservative group had protested about a group of women who’d dressed like super-sexy versions of the Ex Gods characters, like in
