can handle it for you.”

There are still a ton of unanswered questions, but this needed to be done first. Shawna will sleep in a bed she can trust tonight. I’ve had a few guys sitting on the place to make sure Shawna isn’t moved again. We worked all night and day to pull together all the recon for this.

“Nah, this needs to come from me.”

“I understand that,” Ox says. “But are you sure you want to leave her behind. She’s going to be beyond pissed.”

I turn to look back at Skittles’ brownstone. Yeah, she’s going to be pissed, but this is the way it’s going to be. I said it before, I’ll say it again. There are things I will never allow her next to.

“This ain’t for her. Cirah knows what to do if we’re not back before she wakes.”

Ox purses his lips and shakes his head. Yeah, I know what he’s thinking, but I normally don’t get my hands dirty or at least you’d never know I was there. I’ve learned to play my position well.

However, this is an exception because it involves my woman. For this, I want to be there when Danny sees his end coming for the first time. It needs to be me who brings him to his fate. I promised.

Skittles is going to be pissed at me, but I made the decision to leave her behind. She’ll get her chance, but she doesn’t need to be involved in this. I won’t place her in an uncontrolled environment.

“Let’s go,” I say and climb into the blacked-out SUV.

The other two identical vehicles behind us fall in line as we take off. I had to call on a different type of crew tonight. This is Skittles, my brothers would risk it all for her. Funny, I never really thought of how close I’ve become with them until now.

A few of them have tossed around the brother title, but I’ve been reluctant to attach myself to the assholes with titles. Until now.

Just like I couldn’t let Skittles get involved in this part, I would never put them in this position. It’s what makes me so good at what I do, never put the wrong people in a room together.

Roman rolls to a stop a short distance from the property we’re about to storm. He pulls out what looks like a tablet. I look over to see the heat images on the screen.

This guy is the best. From that single photo he knew exactly where this place was. It was the angle of the old mill clock tower.

This is the only property on this side of the mill clock. It was a big deal back in the day. Some rich guy built it but abandoned it for some reason.

It’s changed a few hands since. The story has been a whispered rumor, but not too quiet for Roman not to remember. People in Vander and Bridge Lake lose interest fast and move on, but this story lingered enough.

“Toni, switch modes and find me the girl,” Rome says into the comm.

Within seconds the real-life images from within the house appear. Clear pictures show each room. Rome taps on the one with Shawna. She’s in a downstairs bedroom, sitting on the bed with her head down.

She looks up right as we focus in on her room, and I know for a fact it’s her. She looks so much like Skittles, my chest tightens. I have to remind myself of the plan, so I don’t lose my shit and change it.

I can’t end his life. Not yet.

“Where’s Clavier?” The question comes out harder than I intend it to.

Rome taps the screen twice more. Danny appears. He’s upstairs in a room with five others who seem to be on guard. He’s on the phone pacing.

I snort. I’d break his ass with one hit. I crack my neck, ready to roll. Pieces still aren’t fitting together, but I’m sure they will after this.

“You boys ready?” I say into my ear comm. I want to be back before Skittles wakes and finds me gone.

“As ever,” Ox says from the back seat.

I get an affirmation from the others in the other two SUVs. Rome nods from the driver’s seat.

We all jump from the cars, three remain behind to drive, encase we need a clean get away. We follow the shadows to the front gate. Roman and I take down the first two at the entrance, with silencers on the ends of our rifles.

Rome signals for us to follow him through the gate. I bring everyone to a stop when we get in and start to break them into teams. I point for four guys to follow and take the front with me and Rome.

I point another six to follow Ox. “Ox, round the back. I’m heading up to our target,” I say. The remaining four I send to fan out and cover us all.

“I’m going for Shawna,” Rome mutters and takes off without waiting for anyone to follow him.

I don’t take offense. He’s used to working alone. He’ll be fine. Although myself and the guys going through the front with us are right on his heels.

We all move in quickly, stepping out of the shadows. Rome and I rush the front door. Three targets, three headshots without flinching, that’s how Rome rolls. I grin and shake my head.

I signal for the guys behind me to clear this floor for our exit. I take to the stairs and find my next target. I place two in his chest, one in the head and step out of the way for him to fall down the stairs. Having more comfort with my Glocks, I place the rifle on my back and pull my pistols.

A voice reaches my ears as I get to the top of the landing. “This wasn’t the plan.” The words fill the air. Apparently, Danny is none the wiser that I’m coming for him. “What’s next? What happened the other night?” There’s another pause.

“What do you mean
