and pull him further into the kiss.

Gavinโ€™s hands move up my back and into my hair, tugging gently and causing my head to tilt back. His lips press soft kisses across my jawline and down to my neck, sparking an electric trail along with them. I gasp at the feel of his lips on my exposed neck.

Gavin pulls back at the sound and studies my face. His heavy breath fans my warm cheeks. โ€œAre you okay?โ€ he asks me sweetly.

I nod, unable to speak. I grip the back of his neck and pull his lips back down to mine. My fingers tangle in his hair and I gently bite down on his bottom lip, completely lost for any kind of control.

Gavin sucks in a sharp breath and grabs my hands from behind his neck. He presses his palms into mine and holds them against the pillow behind my head. Gavinโ€™s entire body lowers onto mine and the feel of him on top of me wakes up every nerve in my body. I shiver from the electricity flowing through me and release a small groan deep in my throat.

Gavin instantly pulls his mouth away from me, and before I can even think, he and I are off the couch and standing on the floor. He presses his forehead to mine and makes a noise inside his chest like a deep growl. He looks into my eyes and his golden irises are lit up like Iโ€™ve never seen them before.

He lets a long breath out and whispers my name as a question. โ€œAella?โ€

I am out of breath, but respond to his questioning eyes. โ€œYes?โ€ is all I say.

โ€œCould you please unwrap your legs from my waist before I lose the last bit of control I have left in me?โ€

I tilt my head in question at him but when I look down, I can clearly see that my legs are indeed firmly wrapped around Gavin and his hands are in tight fists by my hips.

My eyes go wide, and a burning blush creeps up my neck. I hop off of Gavin, and back myself a good foot away from him, not sure what my body will do next if I stay so close. Apparently, it has its own ideas that I am completely unaware of.

Gavin rubs a hand through his messed-up hair and chuckles at my confused face. I shake my head at him, completely at a loss for words.

โ€œI can tell by your confusion that Lex hasnโ€™t taught you about this part of your development yetโ€ฆโ€ He laughs. โ€œI guess now you know what it feels like as a teenage boy going through puberty.โ€

I bury my red face in my hands and plop back down on the sofa. I feel Gavin sit next to me and I shake my head. โ€œJust leave me here to die of embarrassment, Gavin.โ€

His rich laughter cuts through the air. He pulls the hands from my face and kisses my cheek so tenderly that I want to jump back onto him. Thankfully, I am able to stay in place.

I sigh. โ€œGavin, my body just attacked you of its own free will. Doesnโ€™t that seem strange to you?โ€

He shakes his head. โ€œItโ€™s completely normal for a developing Seer to express their feelings more strongly than normal humans. In your case, the expression just happened to be physical this time.โ€

I groan. โ€œWonderful. Now Iโ€™ll just be throwing myself at you all willy-nilly with no control over any of it!โ€

Gavin raises his shoulders. โ€œHey, Iโ€™m not complaining in the slightest.โ€

My mouth drops open and I gently shove him. โ€œQuit it!โ€ I say through embarrassed laughter of my own.

Gavin pulls me back to my feet and wraps me in a warm hug. He tilts my chin up with his fingers and softly kisses my lips. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. I will try to remain a perfect gentleman, I promise.โ€

I lay my head against his chest and listen to his soothing heartbeat. โ€œThank you, Gavinโ€ฆ But I canโ€™t promise you that I will.โ€

Gavinโ€™s chest rumbles against my cheek as he continues to laugh at my predicament. He pulls me in tighter, and all of my worries are gone.

Chapter 4

My ankle throbs every time my right foot hits the treadmill. I groan and push the red stop button. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Lex. It felt good for the first ten minutes or so, but now every step feels worse than the last.โ€ I step off the machine and limp over to where Alexa and Kassy stand by the target wall. Kassy has just shot three bullseyes in a row with the crossbow. She really is amazing with that thing.

Alexa pats my shoulder. โ€œThatโ€™s okay. Itโ€™s day one back at it. We can absolutely slow down.โ€

Kassy pulls her arrows from the center of the round target and turns to me with a flick of her long brown hair. โ€œAre you okay, El? Do you need to rest?โ€

I shake my head. โ€œNo, I want to keep going, but maybe just not run anymore today.โ€ I nudge Alexa in the arm. โ€œWhat else could we do? I like the throwing knives and I feel like I could maybe do better without that stupid cast taking up half of my leg.โ€

โ€œYes! I think that would be a great thing to do next.โ€ She super-speeds over to the black bag on the large wooden table full of all kinds of knives and daggers. Gavin keeps the table so neat, and every weapon has its place, just like the tons of swords, arrows, spears, and some things Iโ€™ve never even heard of along the high walls.

Alexa bends in front of me, and hooks a sleek leather belt that I havenโ€™t seen before around my waist. Three narrow leather sheaths hang from the right side of the belt and fall against my hip. Alexa pulls the metal throwing knives from the small bag and sticks each knife into the beltโ€™s pockets. I study the amazingly intricate engravings along the belt
