power stopped and a notification filled his mind.

You have learned the Druid Spell: Nature’s Wrath.

Druid Spell - Nature’s Wrath

Requirements

•     Druid Class

•     Level 1

Description: Summons a ball of raw nature energy to launch at your target.

Damage: 3-5 HP

Mana cost: 15 MP

That was lackluster. Fifteen mana for something that does such a tiny amount of damage? Surely this spell is bugged? I wonder if there’s a way to report bugs in this game. Atlas thought to himself as he searched in all directions for any hint of a help button or menus.

His gaze returned to Master Longstride, only to see the druid staring at him as though he’d lost his mind.

“Something interesting in my office?” Longstride asked.

“No. Thought I saw something. Must be my imagination,” Atlas spurted quickly.

The master merely waved his hand and continued, “Your other two spells must wait. Entangle requires you to reach level 3, while Nurture requires level 5 before I can teach it. In the meantime, you can run quests in the surrounding area to level up.”

“Sweet! Do I get to fight monsters? Go hunting? Subject evil to my magical wrath?” Atlas asked with glee.

“Uh, no,” Master Longstride answered, “I need you to gather ten bundles of Haeyna Sprig.”

As soon as the words left the master’s mouth, a notification popped up.

Quest - Haeyna Sprig

Requirements:

•     Level 1

Quest Rarity: Common

Quest Reward: 50 experience, 5 copper coins, 1 Minor Healing Potion.

Description: Master Zephyr Longstride has tasked you with finding 10 Haeyna Sprig’s.

Do you wish to accept this quest? Yes/No.

Atlas selected Yes, and the druid smiled. Master Longstride reached down behind his desk, grabbed a small pouch, and handed it to Atlas. He immediately took the bag and opened it.

“Inside are the bare essentials you’ll need in the forest. Anything better, you’ll have to work for. You may find others in the village who have need of your services as well.”

“How do I know how much experience I need to level or how my skills level up?” Atlas asked.

“Think the words Personal Information in your mind. Your character information will appear for you,” Longstride replied, although his voice sounded more monotone and computer-like than before.

“Thanks. Do you need me for anything else or am I free to go?”

Master Longstride didn’t bother with words and just shooed him away with his hand. Atlas walked out of the building while continuing to dig through the bag. His hand nudged something sharp, and the pinprick of pain caused him to withdraw it from the bag. A small line of blood welled from the end of his index finger and he opened the top of the bag large enough to peek inside. A metal glimmer filled his view, and he carefully reached into the bag.

His hand wrapped around the smooth end of the object and carefully withdrew it from the bag. The item was a short knife with a coppery hue to it. He stared at it in confusion for a moment before remembering the druid’s words. If his personal information required him to think of a command, this may as well. His first thoughtwas Identify. After picturing the word in his mind, nothing happened. Maybe that doesn’t work because it’s typically a magical spell name? Instead, he just tried Item. This time a box popped open in front of him.

So this is gonna be one of those games? Everything starts off with low HP and gradually climbs. Atlas checked his personal information to see where his base stats stood.

Well, at least there aren’t any of the stupid stats like Luck or Charisma to waste points on.

The bag also contained some meat that registered as Dried Venison when he examined it. He pulled out a small hide container with a wooden screw top on it. A quick shake confirmed it was a water skin. He considered tying the dagger to his pants, only to realize they weren’t his normal blue-jean style pants with pockets and belt loops. These were coarse fabric and offered no way to tie anything to them, so he tossed the blade back into the bag to join the rest of the items. Wrapping the string tight around the top, he carried the bag as he traversed through town.

Atlas was every bit of a noob in this situation and had no money of any kind. He resolved to take the master’s advice and search out more quests before he ventured to the woods. A sign with a plant leaf on it drew his attention, so he ducked into the building.

“Welcome to Zaina’s Herb Emporium,” a young elven woman greeted from behind the desk. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Hi, I’m Atlas and am new to the town,” he said with a wave.

“Well, Atlas, I could guess as much since I’ve never seen you here,” she replied with a sweet smile.

“Uh, yeah,” he said sheepishly, “I was checking to see if you have any quests available?”

“Hm,” she mumbled as she lifted her finger to her chin, “I am running short on a couple different herbs. They are common to the area. Are you familiar with Zanth Root and Weer Bloom?”

Atlas could’ve sworn she spoke another language for a moment, but realized that they were the names of the odd plants.

“No, I’m afraid I don’t know them. Do you have a picture of them?” he asked.

“A picture? What’s that? I have a drawing of them. Would that help?” the woman asked, confused.

Atlas felt like a fool. Cameras probably don’t exist here, so she won’t know what a picture is.

“That should do nicely.” He agreed.

She turned toward the bookshelf behind her and began rummaging around. Atlas took that time to get a good look around the place. She’d engaged him in conversation as soon as he
