The next race in the line was the fox looking one. The humanoid style body had a smooth stomach with very short hair while the back, arms, and legs consisted of longer fur. The face had a humanoid appearance but the mouth and nose elongated similar to a fox. Large pointed ears stood from the top of the head. There was no way Atlas could imagine himself stuck in that body, as fun as it may be, but he looked at the information for it as he approached.
Vulpine
Racial Abilities:
• Able to detect low sounds up to 40 feet away.
• Swiftness - Like their common mammal counterparts, Vulpine are incredibly fast and have a base Agility of 8. Their compact frame also allows them to increase their speed by 15% every 10 minutes. This effect only lasts for 30 seconds.
Description: Vulpines live in forested regions and live in harmony with nature. They hunt and forage for their own supplies but are known to trade with neighboring kingdoms.
Atlas knew exactly what the next creature in line was without even looking at its description. The small, ugly, green-skinned monster stood barely taller than the previous ones but was far scrawnier. Its jagged teeth looked intimidating, but Atlas would never consider playing a goblin. In the past, he’d played his fair share of bad guys in games, but this wouldn’t be one of them. He quickly passed the little beast and moved to the next race.
The next figure in line was a fantasy of many anime fan boys. The creatures looked human for most of their body, but they had the tall soft ears of a cat and a long fuzzy tail. Tufts of fur covered their sides and back. Atlas checked their information.
Beastkin
Racial Abilities:
• Able to detect faint smells up to 40 feet away.
• Acrobatic - Beastkin can leap up to 10 feet in the air. They also have a 15% natural boost to climbing.
Description: Beastkin roam the land as wanderers. They frequent cities of most of the kingdoms and are often bounty hunters. Their love of adventure keeps them on the move.
As awesome as that’d be, I don’t think I could get used to turning into a furry person. His gaze continued down the line. The next three races were human. One was a darker skinned race, the second appeared to be someone of Asian origins, and the final one was of Caucasian descent. A quick look at them showed similarities. They all shared the same first ability of tenacity, giving them a 15% increased resistance to physical damage. Their second abilities differed. Atlas didn’t dig in too far since he didn’t plan on playing as a human. The point of playing a game was to do something different. He walked further down the line.
The next race intrigued him. The lithe figure and pointed ears of an elf greeted him. Two others just like this one stood next to it further down the line. This first one wore leather armor and stood with long braided hair. Vines wove through the man’s hair while flowers decorated the woman’s. A quick glance at their information intrigued him.
Wood Elf
Racial Abilities:
• Receives a 10% boost to stealth in wooded areas.
• Harmony - Wood elves have a 15% bonus to Life and Nature Magic.
Description: Wood elves live in the forests of the world. They strive to maintain balance in nature.
Atlas had a good feeling about the race but wanted to look at the other options. The next in line was a dark-skinned elf. They labeled it a Drow while the final was a regal-looking elf in fancy robes, listed as a High Elf. They had similar characteristics, but their racial abilities differed. Drow were more geared toward stealth, while High Elves focused on magic almost exclusively. Atlas wanted to be a mixture of both, so Wood Elf seemed the better choice.
Something blue caught his eye as he looked down the line. He walked closer to it and saw another towering figure. It was a muscular being, standing a full seven-feet tall. Broad shoulders and a wide, somewhat flat nose stood out the most. The hair on its head looked slick, almost like the old greased back style. Intrigued, Atlas investigated this one as well.
Ar’naen
Racial Abilities:
• Reduces magical and physical damage taken by 50%.
• Regeneration - regenerates health when damaged at a rate of 10 HP/minute.
Description: The Ar’naen are the ultimate warriors of the universe. They are steadfastly loyal to their empire as they travel the cosmos and crush worlds that oppose them.
Holy shit! That class has overpowered written all over it in permanent marker. How could they offer something so unbalanced? Atlas almost selected the race out of pure instinct before his consciousness caught up with what it said. Their description clearly marked them as a bad guy. He’d already resolved not to play one in this game. Great, now I know one of the toughest challenges in the game, he moped to himself.
He looked up and down the line, and his gaze always stopped on the Wood Elf. Further down the line he saw other familiar forms of all shapes and sizes. A werewolf, a kobold, even a fae littered the lineup. Atlas merely shook his head and walked back to the male Wood Elf. With this game being so realistic, he wasn’t fond of the idea of trying a female character. He reached out and touched the elf and a prompt appeared.
Do you wish to choose Wood Elf as your Race? Keep in mind, this choice is final. Yes/No.
Atlas mentally selected Yes, and the room
