How Adonis came to be was no one’s fucking business. And only Raphael knew the whole truth. Not even his mother could claim that. And Encantado? Every citizen had their own hopes and dreams, their problems and heartbreaks.
All of them were able to go through those things because of him.
Encantado had no idea who he really was, and that was fine. It let him move in the shadows, pull strings, and protect the city he’d decided to call home. He didn’t need a medal or some bullshit accolades to do it. This city belonged to him and that was enough. Everyone—paranorms and humans alike—should fear him. Adonis was a monster in silken fabrics and dazzling looks.
Sure, he’d used them to his advantage, but Fabiana was different.
She would be the queen. His queen.
“I am who I am and what I am meant to be. She is mine, which means she is made to stand by my side. While others may find terror at having me before them, I can at least promise she will never be one of them.”
“Then you’ve already broken your promise.”
Adonis released a frustrated growl. “You know what I am saying, pup. She and I are inevitable, and the sooner she learns this, the better. I will not harm your sister.”
“But will you love her? As she is.”
An impossible question. “Does she even know who she is?”
Pasquale frowned and slid his hands into the pockets of his black cargo pants. All his wolves matched him in attire, with dark shirts. They were militant in their bearing and Adonis could appreciate and respect that. They were ready, at a moment’s notice, to attack.
Good.
“She’s never been allowed to. I’ve … tried.”
“Perhaps you aren’t the wolf for the job, then.”
The wolf went to speak again but paused, his face going blank.
The rumored conversations with his wolf. They’re true. Interesting.

“Red, baby.”
Pasquale groaned. He didn’t have time for his wolf to go AWOL right now. “Snow,” he warned.
“Quiet, human. You guys always get it wrong.”
“Now is not the–”
“Hiya, you big hunk of wolf you.”
Snow’s reaction to Red’s response was immediate, the large white wolf shaking and his hackles rising. “I’d like to fuck you.”
“Snow!” Giuliana wailed. “Not right now. We’re trying to prove a point.”
“I’d like to take my mate. Right now. I want her screaming for me.”
“Face down, ass up. That’s the way you like toď€â€ť
“Cut it out, you two,” Pasquale warned. But even now, heat spread through him, and he was hoping like hell the others didn’t see his cock stiffening in his pants.
“Tell me where you are, baby, so I can come take you the way you like.”
Too fucking late; Pasquale knew what Snow was doing.
“Oh, I’m at your old place. Fabiana is hiding away in the safe room. There are cameras here. Might be a little kinky, but I’m game.”
Pasquale groaned, covering his face with his fingers. Those damn wolves knew what they were playing at.
“Snow, I’m going to kick your ass.”
“Oh? How? We gonna play Fight Club?”
Count slowly, Paz, from ten to one.
“I’ll be here to kiss it all better, Snow. I promise. Now, come get me.”
“I’m sorry, Paz. They got us.”
“It’s okay, baby. I’ll deal with it. Stay there and I’ll figure out what to do with her mate.”
Giuliana hesitated before responding. “You’re going to show him the way, aren’t you?”
“Yes, love. She … she deserves to be happy. And he may have shown up in full force, but I’ve never known Adonis not to be fair. He could have kicked my ass if he wanted to. I’m still standing. He pulled every one of his punches. All his wolves did.”
“Are you serious?”
“Giuliana, they could have killed us all if they wanted to.”
Pasquale was not a weak wolf, but Adonis’s power was almost frightening. Pasquale’s head was still ringing from the force of the blows. The skirmish was a game at most for the Moonstone Pack’s Alpha, and Pasquale wasn’t interested in seeing him get serious. Mates were sacred, and no one would stand with him if he started a war to keep his sister to himself.
Giuliana sighed. “I won’t tell her. But … please. He has to go easy.”
“I know. We’ll be there soon.” After a moment, Pasquale refocused on Adonis.
“Welcome back. I am almost envious of your relationship with your wolf.”
“It’s annoying at times.”
“Hey.”
“You shut your blasphemous mouth!”
Pasquale ignored both wolves’ responses. “But helpful at others. I know where your mate is.”
Adonis turned and whispered something to the tall, dark man at his side before he motioned toward a car with his chin. “Then let us depart.”
Pasquale lifted a brow but didn’t move. “What’s your plan?”
“To get my mate. We will go, just the two of us, to retrieve her. My men will wait here with yours. Acceptable terms?”
Yeah, like having a ticking bomb in the center of a mall was acceptable, but Pasquale didn’t think Adonis’s offer would get any better. “Fine.”
“Raph, keep the men under control. I don’t return with my mate, you know what to do.”
“The fuck?”
Adonis looked back over his shoulder. “I am a fair man, Pasquale, but I never said I was a kind one. Not about this. I will never let anyone keep her from me.”
Yeah … this just got messy.
Chapter Four
He had arrived.
It had to be some kind of a record. It only took a half-hour before a sleek, charcoal-gray Rolls flying flags with a full canary diamond moon on a black backdrop pulled up in front of her childhood home.
The Moonstone Pack.
What Fabiana
