Sari smiled but didn't laugh. She reached up and rubbed Moto's furrowed brow. "You should relax."
Moto pushed her hand away and waited for an answer.
Sari dropped her hand unfazed by his impatience. "Kaily asked Shimani a question about it, and no she didn't say anything to him either. He figured it to be the reason behind her question. We all know there is a connection between you and Kaily, a very strong connection if you two are capable of telepathic communication even without completing the bonding ritual. Now back to the problem at hand. Can you sense where she is?"
Moto shook his head and looked around. He was agitated and he couldn't pinpoint where the agitation originated, him or Kaily.
"Moto, look at me."
Moto looked at Sari and then looked away. "I can't sense her. I don't know where she is or why she won't respond." Desperation saturated his tone. He knew Sari could hear it. Much as he hated the show weakness, he didn't have time to be bothered by it. He was too worried about Kaily's well-being to prevent his emotional weakness from showing. His heart pounded and sweat broke out on his brow. If something happened to her, he would never forgive himself.
"We'll find her, but you have to focus." Sari said. "Close your eyes and empty your mind of all emotion."
Moto frowned at her.
Sari raised her eyebrows and waited for him to cooperate.
Moto locked eyes with Sari, took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. Fear and urgency where uppermost in his mind, and it was difficult to push aside those emotions.
"When you have calmed the emotions inside of you," Sari said, "I want you to think of Kaily. Say the first place that comes to mind. Don't think about it, just say it. Do you understand?" Sari asked.
Moto nodded. He didn't understand how that would work, but he didn't have any other ideas, so he would try.
Sari placed the palm of her hand flat in the middle on Moto's chest. Calm began to spread through him from the point of contact. Moto took a deep breath and slowly let it out. Heat from where Sari's palm rested radiated through him, filling him with calm and focus he would not otherwise possess. He took comfort in her touch, and assistance. He took another deep breath and let it out. The sense of calm pushed back the fear and urgency uppermost in his mind, and somehow that calm force created a barrier between his focus and his fears. He took another deep breath and slowly exhaled as he reached his mind out towards Kaily's mind.
"Don't reach for her!" Sari said. "Just think about her. Picture her in your mind. Concentrate on the details, what she looks like, what she feels like, but stay within your own mind. When you have a clear picture, when you feel her, then and only then think about where she is, without reaching for her."
Moto growled in frustration.
Sari thumped him on the chest. "Focus!"
Moto pulled his mind back and forced himself to focus on Kaily in the manner Sari instructed. It was difficult to resist the urge to reach for Kaily, to touch her mind, to do everything he could to bring her to him. He pushed back the feeling that it took too long and forced his iron-clad will to focus on the task at hand. He forced himself to remain focused.
Moto thought about the first time he saw Kaily, about the first time he touched her. He thought about her scent that permeated his very senses. He would recognize her fragrance anywhere for all time. He could smell it even now. As he thought about Kaily and focused, her image solidified in his own mind. Where are you? He sent out before he could stop himself. He couldn't help it. So much for iron-clad will, he thought.
Moto felt Sari's disapproval. He could feel the fear beating at the edge of his conscious thought, despite the calm that kept it at bay. He took another deep breath and let it out. He forced his thoughts to be of Kaily, only Kaily. It was difficult and pushed the limits of his focused control, but he knew it wouldn't help to give into his emotions or the turmoil that came with them. He forced his thought back to Kaily. He focused on how she appeared to him and gave the image every detail that was his Kaily. He focused on how she made him feel, and let those feelings wash over him. She was everything to him, despite his efforts to keep her at arm's length. She permeated his life, his very being. In the moment of clarity, he realized he would do anything for her. Even this. His Kaily needed him to be strong and focused. For her, he would be just that. He took several deep breathes to help him focus. He forced himself not to reach out to her. When his Kaily and all she was filled his mind, he thought about where she was.
"The clearing," He announced after what seemed an eternity. Moto opened his eyes to focus on Sari. It took far longer than he liked. "She's in the clearing Shimani and I use for training." As he said it, he knew it to be true. It didn't make sense he would know where she was with that much confidence.
Sari nodded. "I'll get Shimani and meet you there."
"How are you going to do that?" Moto asked.
"I have my ways. Go. If Kaily isn't answering your telepathic query she may be unconscious." Sari waited for Moto to turn and open a portal to the clearing.
Moto looked back at Sari. "Thank you." He said with a nod of his head and then stepped through his portal. He arrived in the clearing not far from where Kaily lay sprawled out on the ground. His heart stopped for a split second at the sight which greeted him, and
