Even Bonnie was silenced. Ben laughed uncomfortably, and explained. βIβm not saying I want to become an auctioneer β but I want to learn more about things from the past. Just a summer job β okay? Checking provenance, writing catalogue descriptions, that sort of thing. And I can see a few ways your database could be smartened up.β
Christopher sighed. βIf you do that, either Pattie or Fiona will kill you.β
βWell, youβre going to be the boss now. Youβll have to tell them not to.β
Simmy went to talk to the pub landlord about her wedding, and Bonnie found herself with Robin on her lap. Christopherβs phone tinkled and he blinked at the screen.
βItβs Humphrey,β he said, to the uncomprehending youngsters. βHe says heβs found a supplier of the ideal stone for our new fireplace, and thinks itβll work well. Heβll see us on Monday for the final leg of our Big Undertaking.β He showed Simmy the message when she came back.
βGreat,β she said. βBut first I need you to undertake to be my lawful wedded husband.β
