โMe?โ he asked sarcastically, pointing at his chest.
โYes, you,โ she smiled back.
โIโm fine, nothing five stitches and a nice finger of scotch wonโt fix.โ He looked at her soberly. โItโs you Iโm worried about.โ
Surin snorted, shaking her head. โMe, donโt be crazy, I had it under control until you showed up,โ she replied.
He moved forward and brushed a dirty strand of hair out of her eyes. โI know you did.โ
She shifted under his touch and then changed her mind and lent into the palm of his hand, letting his warmth take her to a safe place.
โSurin,โ he said quietly, โnothing about Eamon and you will be in any report.โ She opened her eyes and looked into his. โThat is no oneโs business but your own.โ
Tears ran down her face and she sat back, wiping her nose on the itchy blanket surrounding her. โHe wasnโt a bad person,โ she said, suddenly feeling the need to explain.
Parker held up his hands. โSurin, I donโt need you to say anything.โ
She nodded. โThank you,โ she said quietly. He reached forward and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into him tenderly โ his need to touch her was overwhelming.
After a few minutes of total bliss, Surin reluctantly pulled herself out of his embrace, cleared her throat and the tension in the air with a cough.
โSo, now would be the best time to tell you that you passed the Surin Elliott partner challenge,โ she said with a tired smile. โCongratulations!โ she added, clapping quietly.
He laughed and shook his head. โThank you, thank you,โ he said with a grin. โOur first case closed and hereโs to many, many more,โ he said, helping her out of the ambulance. โNow, letโs get you home.โ
The End
