I was curious if Kaily coming to our world changed," she paused as if she searched for the right words.

"Future events?" Moto supplied.

"That's the thing," Sari said. "We don't know if your night terrors are visions of the future."

"We?" Moto asked.

Sari didn't answer. "We're going to leave you in peace." She said instead. She stood and tapped Shimani to indicate that he was leaving too. Shimani stood. "It will be light out soon and you need to get some rest before Kaily wakes. Don't forget to use the salve before you go to sleep and again when you wake. If she needs more applications will depend on how Kaily responds to the healing." Sari turned to leave and then turned back to Moto. "And this time, tell Kaily about our bonding being a farce." She gave him a stern look. "And don't consummate the bonding with her until she completely heals."

"What makes you think I've decided to bond with Kaily?" Moto asked.

Sari tilted her head at him and smiled. "You have, you just don't know it yet. We'll be back tomorrow late afternoon. Come." Sari said to Shimani as she gave him a push towards the cave entrance.

Moto stared at the entrance for a moment after Shimani and Sari left. He glanced around the cave. The stones and boulders within were placed in such a way that it did appear someone lived there at one point. He stood and walked around the interior of the cave. He saw alcoves that from the center were hidden. At first glance it appeared to be one large room with a high domed ceiling, but on closer inspection there were hidden places.

One of those places held a shower and bathroom, one held supplies of sorts, nothing perishable like food, but things like wood for the fire and metal tools. The chest held more blankets in it. Moto grabbed another. Now, that his adrenaline faded, he felt just how cold the night was. He grabbed a poker and more wood to fuel and stoke the fire. It probably wasn't going to get any colder, but he didn't want to take a chance. The last thing Kaily needed was to get sick from being too cold.

He moved his pallet next to Kaily's so that they touched and covered Kaily with the additional blanket he grabbed. He walked over to the nearest stone that provided light to the cave. Frowning he held his hand over it and thought about how Sari withdrew energy from Kaily and tried to do the same. The light dimmed. He did the same to the other two. He checked the covering on the entrance and secured the edges on the hooks at the bottom and sides. Once he was satisfied there was nothing else to look after he lay down next to Kaily. He carefully pulled her into his arms. He covered them both with the blankets. He was cold. It was the kind of cold that penetrated to the core and one he didn't know if he would recover from to ever feel warm again. It wasn't a physical cold.

Moto remembered about the salve just before he finished settling on the pallet. He got up and retrieved the jar along with the cloth from where he left them. He scooped out what looked like a decent amount. He pushed his fingers carefully inside Kaily and rubbed the salve into the raw spot he found. Kaily stirred when he touched the spot but stayed asleep. He wiped his fingers on the cloth. He was grateful to Sari for thinking of what he would need or Shimani or both.

Moto drew Kaily close to him and kissed the top of her head. He thought about what Sari said. How could he bond with Kaily? Hadn't he caused her enough trouble? He rolled to his back, pulling Kaily with him. He wasn't going to let her go. He rearranged the blankets so they both remained covered and stared up at the ceiling. He couldn't let her go back to her home world, not until she could control her abilities. Although, he wasn't positive it would matter. Aside from around the gate, he didn't feel energy flowing on her home world, but neither could he take the chance. He closed his eyes. He didn't have answers and he was tired. It had been a long and emotional night.

Moto took a deep breath and let it out. He let go of the tension inside him that built up from the events of the night. He tried to let go of his anger. He needed sleep, they both did, and anger or any other emotion stirring inside of him wouldn't help. They needed sleep.

Chapter Sixteen

When Kaily woke she focused on just breathing. Her skull felt ten times too small because of the pressure and pain that filled it. Despite how she felt, she knew without opening her eyes that her head rested on Moto's shoulder and his arms were wrapped around her. His scent permeated her senses and his touch warmed her to the core of her soul. There was a deep coldness inside her that his secure, comforting embrace held at bay. She allowed awareness to slowly seep into her mind but remained as still as possible to keep her skull from exploding into a million pieces. She felt like she'd been run over by a huge truck and then for good measure, it backed up ran over her again. Despite her best efforts a groan escaped from between her pressed lips.

Moto stirred beneath her.

"Stay." She said in protest. It came out as an audible whisper. She held her hand against his chest as if that small effort would stay his movement.

He placed a gentle kiss on the top her head. "I have something that will help." He moved out from under her.

Despite the care he took to not jostle her, she winced from the movement. Pain stabbed her head just behind her eyes, and
