It was time to lay claim to her legacy.

WE GET through life, if we’re lucky, because people care for us. Yet so much of the caring that takes place in society goes unseen and unrecognised.

So my acknowledgements are simple.

I want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who shoulders the responsibility of looking after others.

That includes all the dedicated, hard-working staff at Leeds Weekend Care Association, Henshaws, Farfield House and Wheatfelds Hospice in Leeds.

Closer to home, my admiration goes out to Linda, who knows the cost and the importance of caring; to my sister Sue, for being a great foster mum; and to my sister-in-law Liz, for having the patience of a saint when it came to getting Pritt Stick out of Alan’s carpet.

I would also like to thank Christina Taylor at Morrish Solicitors in Pudsey for our very useful conversation about wills and Statements of Wishes.

Lastly, should you venture to Sandsend, there is an excellent café near the beach that serves great crab sandwiches, good coffee and a wide selection of lovely cakes, but there are, as yet, no padlocks on the railings.
