โ€ข        Smooth Wood Wand x 20

The two quests excited him. Not only would they mean a good amount of money, it also meant heโ€™d gain some much needed experience without as much grinding.

โ€œSister, I think we should give it to him,โ€ Penny said, โ€œitโ€™s only right after heโ€™s helped us so much. I have to admit I was a bit of a jerk to him during the rescue. Daddy never had the time to do anything with it, and I think it could prove useful.โ€

Raina snapped her head to her sister, โ€œYou think so? Itโ€™s essentially fatherโ€™s legacy.โ€

โ€œI think heโ€™d want Atlas to have it,โ€ Penny said with finality.

โ€œI guess so,โ€ Raina sighed, โ€œIt looks like we have one more gift for you.โ€

She walked over to the bookcase on the side of the room and grabbed a book on the shelf. Instead of pulling it free, she tilted it forward, and he heard a distinct click. Raina grabbed the wooden case and the front of it swung away from the wall, revealing a wooden case with a glass front embedded into the stone wall. A quick turn of the small handle on the front caused the case to slide open on quiet hinges. The young woman reached in and gently withdrew a long piece of wood.

Atlas couldnโ€™t identify the type of wood. A few bands of metal crossed it in different places and a gem sat on one end of the staff, encased in another metal bracket. The piece had cracks along its length and the metal looked worse for wear and tarnished.

โ€œThis was our fatherโ€™s prize possession. He had hopes of restoring it one day but never got the chance. Hopefully it will serve you well if you can find the time to fix it,โ€ Raina said as she handed over the item.

Atlas looked skeptical as he accepted the battered-looking weapon. A quick inspection of it changed his mind.

His eyes almost bulged out of his head when he finally noticed the item and the quest were listed as Unique rarity. Heโ€™d seen nothing better than Rare yet. The vagueness of the quest bothered him, though.

โ€œThank you for entrusting me with this. Iโ€™ll do what I can to restore it. Do you know of anywhere I can start?โ€ Atlas asked.

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m guessing youโ€™ll need to talk to the Master Woodworker, the Master Jewelcrafter, and possibly the Master Smith to find out how to fix it. Our father never made much progress because they didnโ€™t like competition,โ€ Raina told him.

โ€œIโ€™ll see what I can do. Iโ€™ll run over to the shop and fill your orders for you. Can I turn them in to Joe or do I need to come back here?โ€

โ€œHe can accept delivery of the items and complete the quest for you,โ€ Penny confirmed.

โ€œGreat. Send me a message when you have more orders for me. The courier service seems to work fine.โ€

They bid each other farewell, and he left the house. Living up to his word, he headed straight for The Lacquer Stop. It took him a little searching, and he had to ask passing people twice for directions, but he finally found it.

Smooth wood logs created a banister around the front of the building. All of them were layered with lacquer to make them shine as though encased in epoxy. The sign on the polished door clearly stated The Lacquer Stop.

Inside was much of the same. The counters were all polished to a smooth sheer. Even the floor held some luster, although not as reflective. A younger man with dirty blonde hair sat in a chair whittling away at a piece of wood. When he finally noticed Atlas, he sat up straighter and fumbled with his project.

โ€œCan I help you, sir?โ€ The young man asked.

โ€œIโ€™m here to complete some work. Can you show me where the supplies you have for work orders are located?โ€ Atlas asked.

โ€œUm, I mean, I donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about. Iโ€™m the crafter in this place,โ€ the man stammered.

โ€œYour owners have contracted me to complete some projects for them. I was told to use the supplies on hand. So help me out here, Joe.โ€

โ€œHow do you know my name?โ€

โ€œRaina and Penny told me, now I donโ€™t enjoy repeating myself,โ€ Atlas huffed. He had far too many things to do than to keep up this useless string of conversation.

โ€œIโ€™ll need to verify youโ€™re supposed to be working here before I can do that.โ€

Atlas only sighed. It would take forever to wait on this guy to check on this. A flash of inspiration hit him, โ€œDo you know about the last masterโ€™s pet project?โ€

โ€œYesโ€ฆ,โ€ the man answered slowly.

Atlas reached into his bag and carefully withdrew the battered staff.

โ€œThis should serve as proof then. The owners gave me this as a gift and sign of our contract.โ€

Joeโ€™s eyes nearly bulged out of his head
