as he saw the old staff.

“Sam only brought that here once for me to see. He harped on about how he’d restore it one day but never did,” Joe reflected, “I guess if you have that, your story must be true.”

Joe stood from his seat and placed his partially finished piece on the table, “Follow me.”

He led him to the back room where piles of materials lay stacked along the floor and on racks on the walls. Each section had a label that identified the order it belonged to.

“Which orders did they task you with working on?” Joe asked.

Atlas looked back at the quests and figured they must be the quest names for the orders.

“Supplying the Blacksmith and Custom Armaments.”

Joe whistled at that, “You’ll be here for a long time trying to fill those. How many days do you plan on working here?”

“Oh, I’ll finish today,” Atlas said with a casual wave.

“Today? How will you finish it all?”

“Don’t worry about me. You can return to your work. I’ll take care of this.”

Joe didn’t look like he wanted to leave, but Atlas also got the feeling that he was slightly allergic to work. The slow speed of his production alluded to this already. After a few minutes of staring at him, Joe returned to the front, presumably to his desk.

This back room held the lathe he needed to make the Smooth Wood, and a large stack of Sandpaper sat near the device. Atlas cracked his knuckles and got to work on both of the orders. It took hours to finish up the laundry list of pieces, but he finally stepped back and surveyed his work.

You gained 51,400 total experience in Woodworking.

Success! You’ve reached levels 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 in Woodworking.

Holy crap, that’s a lot more experience than I expected. I was a little disappointed when the quests didn’t specifically give me Woodworking experience, but since the materials are free, I can see why.

Atlas stacked all the weapons on their respective pallets with the order’s name tag and walked back to the front of the shop.

“Order’s all done. I never discussed clean up duty with the ladies, but I’ll just assume you’ve got that covered. I’ll see you next time they have work for me,” Atlas told him as he walked out the front.

“Oh,” Atlas said as he stopped, “I need you to accept the quests as completed.”

The look on Joe’s face was comical. If he wasn’t careful, his jaw would hit the ground. The man leaped to his feet and ran to the back. He came back with a look of bewilderment plastered on his face. With an awkward nod from Joe, both quests marked as completed.

You gained 1,400 experience.

You gained 5g 80s for turning in Supplying the Blacksmith and 4g 90s for turning in Custom Armaments.

Success! You’ve reached level 16.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Atlas decided it was time to visit the Master Woodworker. He needed some insight on the damaged staff and some new skills. It felt like he’d been in this city forever, but he’d truly just recently arrived. The trainer here should have plenty of new abilities for him, especially with his recent windfall of levels.

He took the chance to drop one of his points into Intellect, bringing it to 17, and the other into Spirit, making it 7.

A few questions to nearby people led him directly to the Woodworker’s place. He noticed more players wandering around the city and guessed he was finally catching up with some of his leveling. His long breaks from work didn’t let him grind the game as hard as others.

An old man with a sour expression sat behind an ornately carved desk. His wrinkled hands looked far too fragile to still do much in the profession, but a simmering fire lit his eyes.

“Can I help you, young man?”

“I’m here to see if you know how to repair this staff,” Atlas said as he withdrew the Damaged Staff.

The old man reached out with trembling hands and took the piece from him. He ran his gnarled hands along the rough wood.

“How did you come by this?”

Atlas didn’t want to tell the truth, so instead, he merely told him he bought it.

The guy’s eyebrows shot up with skepticism, but he didn’t press farther.

“This piece is possible to restore, but it’ll require work. I can repair the wood if you can gather a couple items. A quest box greeted him after the announcement.

Quest - Repair the Staff (Woodworking)

Requirements

•     Level 15

Quest Rarity: Unique

Quest Reward: 800 experience, Wood pieces of Staff repaired.

Description: The Master Woodworker has informed you he can repair the wooden section of the staff but he needs the following two items:

Mahogany Dust

Sap of an Ent

“Seems pretty straight forward. Do you know where I can find the items?”

“Mahogany dust is easy. You can collect it when you use sandpaper on Mahogany while crafting. The Sap of an Ent is a little trickier. I’ve heard there is a small grove to the west of the city where they have spotted Ents in the past, but don’t know if anything lives there still.”

“Thanks for the help,” Atlas told him as he fetched the staff back and placed it in his bag.

“Is there anything else I can help you with?”

“I’d also like to train my new Woodworking abilities,” Atlas added.

The man smiled and waved his hand, making the menu pop up in his vision. The options were the same he’d grown accustomed to. The difference was his tier of wood rose. Now, instead of smooth wood, all the abilities shown were Mahogany. Create Smooth Mahogany Log, Create Smooth Mahogany Rods, Create Smooth Mahogany Wand, Create Smooth Mahogany Ring, Create Smooth Mahogany Longbow Frame, Create Smooth Mahogany Shortbow Frame, Create Smooth Mahogany Necklace Charm, all added to the list of items he could now create.

Atlas bid the crafter farewell and went in search of the Blacksmith shop. This was a little easier to find. The smell of burning coal
