Jade's Story

Introduction

:

This is a story about a young foster kitty that had been through a terrifying ordeal before she
came to us.

Foster Kitty

:

One day my partner and I rescued a kitten running around in the parking lot of the Kipling Subway station, and since we saved her we figured we had the right to name her before we took her to the nearest Humane Society the next day. We decided to call her Willow.

A few days later we decided that we wanted to foster her, so I had talked to the shelter manager about fostering her, and soon found out that she was already adopted by a very nice family; and why wouldn’t she be. This kitten was one of the cutest I’ve ever seen. Anyone would fall in love with her.
The manager then mentioned to me about young cat that desperately needed fostering. She explained to me that this cat is at the local city animal shelter, and was too skittish and terrified to stay in a shelter environment at the time. She also explained the reason of her fears.
Apparently her human mom was killed by her boyfriend. Anger soon began to build up inside as I thought about what this man did, and the fact that he might have went after this poor little kitty, and her canine sibling. She also explained that the dog that lived there was too traumatized that he had to be euthanized. Due to the effects of the ordeal.

After hearing all that she had been through, I soon agreed in fostering this kitty since I wanted her to feel safe again, and to heal from the trauma she recently suffered.

The next day I met up with the manager of the cat shelter at the Humane Society and headed to the Animal Services shelter nearby where the kitty was being safely kept until she received a foster home. By the time we arrived this little kitty was already in a carrier waiting for us to be picked up. All I could see at the time were terrified green eyes staring back at me.
After some forms were taken cared of, she was transferred to the care of the Etobicoke Humane Society, and now my foster kitty. I was soon dropped off at the front of my apartment building with the kitty in the cardboard box carrier.

A few days of staying with us, my partner and I decided on a name. First we thought of Lady, then Jade because of her green eyes, finally settling on putting the two together and calling her Lady Jade. As time went on though, we found ourselves just calling her Jade.

While staying with us she was extremely skittish, and wouldn’t even let us pick her up. So we just gave her some space until she felt comfortable to come out on her own. We just waited for her to approach us only when she felt safe, but she often ran away as soon as we were about to pick her up. She would come to us, but then run, and hide. We were not the only ones she had to get used to, since we had two cats of our own already. She would have to deal with their hissing and growling for awhile until they finally tolerated having her around.

Our cats Beatrix and Layla were much older, and a little annoyed with Jade’s energy. She
kept trying to get them to play, but they wouldn’t have it. A year later our cat Layla, who
was already suffering from pancreatic cancer passed away, and so we decided six months
later to adopt Jade since she was already used to us and Beatrix. At this time she was accepted as part of the family.

Jade

:

Jade is much better now, but is still a little skittish at times as she hides when friends and family pays a visit. She feels uncomfortable meeting new people, so she would not come out from hiding, at least until she feels it is safe enough to do so.

It is so delightful to watch her run and play. She makes us laugh every time she does this -- especially when she plays.

Now, she lets us pick her up to snuggle her into our arms for awhile. At night she jumps onto my fiances' chest and snuggles with him, and then she comes to me for some more snuggling, but of course, only on her own terms. She even talks to us with her tiny meows, and when she does this, it sounds like she’s asking us questions in a tiny kitten voice. Even though, she's is now three years old. I believe that Beatrix has even grown fond of Jade. She kisses Jade on her forehead now. Jade then glances at us with a questionable and suprising look upon her face. It is just hilarious to see this. Well, at least now they are bonding quite well. We are so proud of Jade, and how far she has come since she has been with us. She's becoming stronger each day.

We adore our little Jade, and always will. She brings sunshine to our lives without her each day and every day. We even have a special nickname for her which is, 'Precious Little Princess.

She always would be special to us, and we can't even imagine her, not being in our lives forever and ever.
