Battered NotBroken
How I long for those days
of sweetness and love.
Were they ever real, or
something wished for or just
imagined.


My heart aches with fresh pain
delivered through careless words.
Every turn I take there is a reminder
of how cruel
people can be to one
another.


My tears made new rivers
that flowed into the ocean
and lifted by my anger,
crashed violently on the rocks.


The rocks were worn away
and left as sand on the
beach.
I walk on this beach created
through all my pain.

With my head down for fear everyone
can see through me, to my damaged
heart
and the vacancy in my
eyes.

Something was taken from me,
longing to be whole again
I take a step forward.

To take back the sweetness of
life I took for granted.
I refuse to live with a battered heart.
