Atop his throne of plastic crates
Almond eyes of azure glow
Warily they trace my movements
I dish out wet food slowly. Slow

I make a move to pet his head
And out the window, once again
I can’t expect an instant friendship
It took three years to become James’ friend.

Darkness brings him peace and quiet
Ghostly sounds of better days.
All his siblings nestled warmly
Around the man, who took in strays.

Tomorrow all his windows close
His life, his throne, tossed out like trash
I have one day to convince this cat
I am his friend…is that too brash?

I’ll enter his sanctum late tonight
Whileβ€˜The Sentinel’ sleeps upon his throne
Toss a blanket, over closed azure eyes
And offer him a new home.

"Plastic-Crate Throne"

Yesterday I found him behind the crates
That once made-up his plastic throne
All his siblings caught and placed
This fuzzy cat, sits watch alone.

Last night he might have slept and dreamt
Of the one he loved...and better days
The gentle voice of a man who found most
"Splendid Creatures" thrive on praise.

A bed brought in - and taken out
Strangers tossing sacred things
Watching from a near-by bush
He caught a glimpse of Angel wings.

All his siblings, now carefully placed
He must still guard this space alone...
Today I found him, behind the dumpster

Curled inside his plastic crate throne.
