Still Six More Weeks (Senryu Chain)
He's at it again
it's trying to run away
from his fat shadow.
Not like he can talk
to let us know, how stupid
all us humans are.
There are six more weeks
no matter how hard we try
we'll still shovel snow.

Winter's Here (Haiku Chain)
Flakes flow with the wind
although it is cold outside
I'm wearing a smile.
Winter can be harsh
as the snow piles on the streets
people do complain.
Winter's here to stay
just a little while longer
shouldn't get you down.

The Cat Waits (Abbreviated Crown Haikus)
The cat waits by the mouse hole
it sits.
His lunch will be on its way
it sits.
Mouse scurries across the floor
it sits.
It stops to look at the cat
it sits.
Meal gets away from the cat
it sits.

The Turkey Entertains (Double Modulus 5)
Walking to the beat
in his clown costume
big shoes on his feet
his feathers all plumed
it looked rather neat.
Stops to entertain
for people on streets
he has himself trained
with a smile, he greets
meal? Never again.

These Storms (Modulus 8)

The Winter Snow (Haiku Chain)
The Winter snow falls

In the afternoon

and sun starts to set.

Remembering Oklahoma (Lira)
So many years have passed, now
and so many lives are being remembered
mourners clasp their hands, heads bow
prayers from family members
emotions still heated, like glowing embers.

On this day of remembrance, the lives that were taken from the Earth before their time in Oklahoma and Virginia, are being mourned. May they rest in Peace and may they never be forgotten.

Our Earth (Tanka Chain)
An ode to the Earth
she's providing for us all
we have to love her.
Replace trees, that are cut down
instead of leaving bare land.
Take her for granted
her heart is being destroyed
when will we all learn?
We will have to smarten up
before she dies out on us.
I don't think it's right
that we are destroying her
God gave her to us.
We have to look after her
before she's taken away.
Copyright Cynthia Jones
Hairy Legs (Double Rhyming Tanka)
I've got hairy legs
they keep me so very warm
"Shave them," hubby begs.
Give me extra heat at night
keeps my husband filled with fright.
Throughout the Winters
I have been through many storms
hairs feel like splinters.
I think the hair gives me height
but of course, I ain't that bright.

I Have Missed You, Mom (Decuain)
My friend, I have missed you so very much
when the wind blows, all I think of, is you,
it has always been my heart, you have touched
Mom, for such a long time, I've been so blue.
Tears I have felt, in Summer's morning dew
I've been missing sleep, through the long, cold nights,
just wishing to talk, before nights are through
hoping to see you, before morning's light.
It has always been my heart, you have touched
I have missed you, Mom oh, so very much.
