I sit and stare
through the trees that surround me,
waiting for the day that I
will not be sitting here alone
with my back resting
against the strong,
old
bark

I sit and wait
for the one that will come
to save me, keep me from
the routine I'm in
my back resting
against the soft,
green
bark

I sit and hope,
soon the day will arrive
that I shall have
the one here next to me
my back resting
against the warm,
dry
bark

I sit and listen, hearing
footsteps in the trees
crackles of the leaves
in the wind; a breath
my back resting
against the cool,
smooth
bark

I sit and breathe cold,
misty air from my lungs
chills in the air,
a voice near my ear
a hand upon my shoulder
my back leaning
against my lover's strong,
warm body

I smile
