Masterβs huge cotton plantation is no more
People of color own their own property from shore to shore
No more free labor from us ever again!
And if you hit me with a whip, Iβll knock you into another domain!
Look at all of those black folk walking on the campuses of Harvard, Duke and even Yale
Iβve never seen anything like this before, what the hell?
When we were slaves, we were not allowed to learn how to read a single alphabet
If we got caught reading, every negro knew just what they would get
Hung from a tree and made an example of
Beaten, disfigured right in front of those we loved
Now we see our bloodlines reaching higher heights
Even dining in restaurants with or near white people without a single fight
As house slaves, we cooked all the white folks food everyday
We had to! Even though they treated us very cruel and we received no pay
You are now doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers and people who put out fires
Our beautiful people can now be anything they desire
Dear lord help me clear my eyes from all this glittery stuff falling all around us
We are trying to see why our people are putting up such a big fuss
My lord Jesus! They just elected a black man for president
For he is the one lord you recently spoke of, Thatβs the one you sent!
He will live in the White House that we were forced to build with heavy stones
Where we were sold on its steps, babies ripped out of mothers arms and left all alone
We thank you dear lord for allowing us to glance at our descendants each day
Their prayers ring throughout the heavens, we are so glad they did not forget to always pray
You have delivered them from all bondage and fear
Lord you kept your promise to all of their ancestors up here
They still must deal with some injustice, this is true
But all they have to remember is to always lean and depend on you
Holy Father, we so enjoyed our visit on earth this time
However, Paradise awaits us with its peace, beauty and angelic bells that chime
