Author's Note

Poetry has always been something that I have found comfort in, in times of uncertainty, or found solace in, even in the darkest of times. It has always brought to my heart great joy and contentment. By putting out these poems in the world I hope to do the same - to offer comfort, to share joy and sorrow and simply to leave an impact.

In the coming pages you will read my thoughts put into words, poetry and letters unsent..., a result of happiness, joy, pain, heartbreak or just sheer boredom.

In 'Petals of a flower' I hope to make my readers realize the different petals of a flower; the flower being life. Like a flower, our life too has different petals and different phases and it is important to experience every phase and every petal. We all know how empty a flower looks with a missing petal, thus it is a gentle reminder to enjoy all the petals of life; to enjoy life as a whole. And hence comes the title of my book; so experience the petals of happiness, joy or even heartbreak in the following pages.

Our lives are like flowers so let's make them as beautiful as them...

Happy reading

CONTENTS Pineapple The Sunset The Desolate Path Wish There Once was a Time The Darkness That Day Entwined Last Summer A Forlorn Forever

Pineapple

The newspaper lies in the distance,

Its pages rustling.

My attention is caught,

And I read further. 'Pineapple' it read,

She was pregnant it said.

My vision blur, And I wonder,

What did the poor being do, To deserve this?

Just an elephant it was,

Two months gravid;

Innocent it was.

Gigantic but benevolent,

And innocent.

A pineapple;

Burst in her mouth.

Jaw inflamed,

Filled with pain,

Agonised and scared.

Eventually, the thumping torturous pain,

Became unbearable,

Not only for her,

But also for the little life inside.

As she stepped in the river;

Standing,

Breathing,

Heaving,

Dying.

The Sunset

And like the setting sun, she went down each second, each day,

and then before we could know it she was gone.

While she lasted, we could admire her beauty

but now that she is gone life seems dark...

The Desolate Path

 (of Sati)

Amidst the silent chaos,

I see a young widow,

Draped in red,

Dressed as a bride most beautiful.

The crowd looks at her,

With regard and disbelief,

While her eyes constantly search,

For a courageous someone,

Who’d oppose societal norms.

She desperately hopes,

For someone to give her the precious gift,

Of life, and of voice.

Yet, all we do,

Is steer out the way,

Abandoning the path,

And her hopes.

But there she is,

With an air of courage,

Lingering around her.

Standing as fierce as the flames;

The flames, and the pyre,

That awaits to engulf her,

In a grievous departure,

At the end of that pathway.

And on the other end she stands,

Clenching life in her fist,

Letting a little go,

With every step she takes.

She walks down the path gracefully,

Surrendered in sacrificial love and requires of others,

As I stay hoping that one of us would reveal,

The words that lay buried in our hearts.

And the further she walks,

The closer the embers fly,

And warmer the heat grows,

But here I remain,

As a part of this mob,

Dumbstruck; a silent bystander,

With a fearful and guilty heart,

Watching you walk this path of life.

Time slowly passes,

And everyone remains dead still,

As the realisation occurs,

Of it being too late.

Painful cries heard, the red turned to ash,

And I can’t help but wonder,

Would you have changed your path,

Had I broken my silence?

Wish

 Eyes red from crying,

Heart tired of trying,

Just one wish in my head,

Which is of dying...

There Once was a Time

There once was a time

I once had a heart too

Which beat for someone I knew.

There once was a time

When I had a heartbeat too

And there was a time

When it beat only for you.

And now here is a time

When my heart just beats

And not for you.

This is a time, my heart just beats,

It beats to keep me alive,

Coz that's what you couldn't do.

There once was a time

When my heart made me happy too

Because then it was me and you,

Did you ever feel it too?

And here is a time

When my heart weeps

And it weeps for you,

So tell me do you feel it too?

Coz now here is a time,

When my heart aches,

And aches just for you,

But no, you won't ever feel it too...

The Darkness

 Surrounded by darkness

Lay I here.

The darkness, it slowly whispers your name in my ear,

In this blinding darkness,

I see your face, everywhere;

And this is one thing I cannot bear.

With this darkness, I slowly fall asleep,

Just to haunt myself with dreams,

Dreams of you that silently make me weep.

I wake up with a tear, the darkness blinding me yet once again,

And I try to forget my memories that I once held so dear.

This time I decide, to stand up and walk to the light.

But as I stand, something pricks me on my feet,

These are shattered pieces of things which look like glass,

Broken, sharp and neat.

Here are the pieces of my broken heart,

Those lie on the floor like scattered art.

These are the pieces of my shattered dreams,

And nothing can ever fix them, it seems.

However, I move forward, towards the light, still in pain,

And I don’t know how this happens, oh!

It is so vain,

But the more I try to go towards the light,

Around me, the darkness becomes even more tight,

And all over again I find myself drowning...

Drowning in darkness,

Darkness, that slowly whispers your name in my ear,

And shows me your face everywhere.

That Day

There will be a day

When I will forget

How your lips curled up into a smile,

There will be a day

When I will forget

What your
