For you, my friend.

Broken Stones.

I've hidden all our treasures,
buried them underneath my skin.
I've kept guard like a soldier,
kept you close like a fool.

I have misread the clues
& have changed the answers.
You've been freed from sin,
while I lied condemned with the rest of it.

I never asked you for comfort
Always hoped you'd let me go
but you held onto me so tightly,
the knot couldn't be set loose.

Air is strained - Forms of free thought
& vacant lies; release is the best way to go
when there's no turning back home.
& if there's hope for me, I don't want to know.

There are still parts of me
that are simply missing you.
You've loved me enough to reappear
as the empty silhouette I'll simply never own.

But you never needed any help,
you always knew which stone to throw.

You sold me out - ran away.
Kept me safe to put on a show,
so if you really care, please don't let me know
just hurt me for good this time.

Lay down on the broken road
and kill me with my own broken stones;
[don't take pity on what may be held for me
you gave up the fight, there's no more shining light...

Just pretend I wasn't there,
you never wanted my lending hand,
so if you love me, I don't want to know
just swear you'll never let me go..]

Sweaty palms & gritted teeth,
I camouflage my heart to cold
so you will never know
why I chose to let you go.
