SUCCESS - I See You by J.M Barnes

I have seen you

Creeping on the edges of my vision

I know you're there

Watching me and mumbling aloud

I know you,

though I fear you just the same

I have watched you glide around me like a shark in a dark ocean

Your teeth are endless,

like possibilities

You are unstoppable and I have avoided you too long

Your gaping maw beckons but I resist as ever

Plaintive in my efforts there is no use,

you have caught me...

at last...

success

Why is there not silence?

Why has my sight not dimmed?

Where do my limbs take me?

Whispered promises on the wind.

At last...they cry and I seek closest cover

the beast has finally found me

and it has made me...

its lover

Why did I resist?

Just the threat of you, my jailer

Now that I know you so true

I can never return to failure.

A COLD AND UNFORGIVING WORLD by J.M Barnes

There's an iron candle inside my chest

Not always aflicker with flame

There's a smoking gun you call my fist

On its palm is written a name

My anger keeps me warm

My hatred keeps me warm

The violent boom of thunder

Quiets my storm

As I shiver under the shadow of you

My anger keeps me warm

My hatred keeps me warm

The boom of thunder quiets my storm

As I search this world for you...

LOVE POEM FOR JEANNIE

Opposites attract and we are the proof

Nothing in common living under one roof

I, an introvert, you a raging fire

I breathe in your passion and bathe in your desire

For so long voices railed against our designs

One passionate embrace pushed them all from our mind

Age no barrier, burdens no wall

Ups and downs irrelevant,

the most honest love of all

If I had known you would we have come to this?

If you'd relented would we even exist?

You are the fire that burns within me and gives me hope when all seems lost

You are the extra push I need while by these winds my world is tossed.

I have no love or purpose without you in my life

I never would have survived, my world so marred with strife.

Nearly twenty years have passed and there is little we have not seen or done

If I was asked if I had any regrets I would say there was just one.

I should have loved you more and looked past all your faults,

I should have listened closer, the advice you gave for naught

I wish I held you closer so now you would still feel the same,

and I wish we could communicate better so our together was not so strained.

I remember the passion and I remember the issues with trust

I recall the unwavering support but mostly I remember us.

This is to you...my heart...my Queen,

For without you...there can be...

no me.

JAGGED EDGES by J.M Barnes

All jagged edges,

hard,

without a grin,

A long time lost

Never quite knew where to begin,

A glare profound,

to warn away the cruel,

Your nearness draws a fearsome din.

How can I continue? With this shouting in my soul.

How can I continue? Only you can make me whole.

Let me fade from this caption,

this world,

this life,

I have no good words, my tongue a serrated knife.

Though my heart spilleth over I favor now the end,

I close my eyes, burned with the image,

of you my closest friend.

See me not as angry and full of dissent,

But as a tidal wave of fury that did finally relent.

I tried to accept the world but it was never fond of me,

Enough of the battles I cannot win, finally...

I am free.

Wolverine - Logan
One of the reasons Wolverine became so popular among comic fans and children alike was his humanity. He represented the opposite spectrum from godly heroes like Superman or Thor. He possessed all of the foibles and weaknesses of the common man. His greatest foe often was his own lack of self control. Because of his mutation he battled his savage urges with every breath. To me this was an echo of the inner struggle many men go through as they mature. This is also the struggle all good men go through as they stand by and wait for a slow and unwieldy judicial system to deliver justice to the deserving.

Forced to reign in his true capacity for violence and revenge he still managed to be one of the greatest Marvel Comic heroes of all time. He existed somewhere between civility and savagery. He was neither Man nor Beast...

MAN NOR BEAST by J.M Barnes

Man nor beast, upon either or, forever I will feast

Man nor beast, greater or less, more savage to say the least

Senses acute, I smell the blood on your hands

I hear the tune of your fear, for guilt is only man's

Silent as night, I follow ill wrought fate

Bloodstained steel, razor sharp is my hate

Bound by honor, righting wrongs yet they scorn

Gaijin barbarian, ex-man born

Man nor beast, I am the foe your running from

Man nor beast, I'll cut the cruelty from your tongue

Unsure of myself I seek solitude with my pain

Senses acute only humanity keeps me sane

Mostly immune, healing process keeps me whole

Unbreakable bones, all that wounds is my soul

Past unknown my friends are too few

Renowned for death, man nor beast I'm coming through

Man nor beast, I'm the shadow your running from

Man nor beast, I'll kill the beast you've become

Super Patriot
Captain America was one of the best comic heroes of all time for several reasons. He represented the core of humanity that still held morality and righteousness close to their hearts. He represented a fallen age. In our current age it was amusing to watch him adjust to how things had changed since he had been frozen alive. It was also amusing to watch him embarass villains with way higher power levels than his own. He was and is the best all around scrapper in Marvel comics, I beg anyone to disagree. His only reliance was upon his mighty shield which was pretty nigh unbreakable. No healing factor, no super invulnerability, just good old American hard work.

This is my ode to the great Captain America and a tip of the cap to the creators and writers responsible for keeping this character alive and strong.

THE CAPTAIN by J.M Barnes

We saw him as a silhouette, the bombs were crashing down

He broke through the iron lines and gave us higher ground

Bullets screamed, men fell, he saved our lives that day

We fought a path to the commandants and justice had its way

He fell one day with his partner at his side

All the world fell silent when they heard the Captain died

When my grandson screamed the Captain was alive

I felt the flowering of pride where my heart and soul doth reside

He lives again and wears the stars and stripes true

The Captain has returned with the red, white and blue

Let all the villains and tyrants hear the clarion call

The Captain has come home, the greatest of them all

"To my Brother, friend, teacher, listener and inspiration of many things."

BROTHERS ARISE by "A pair of jokers"

Through the high and the low

in the mud and in the sky

Where we were headed we never really knew

but together we could never die

The world may laugh and shake its head

although the real smiles are worn by us

So put all your worries to bed

there is no more reason to fuss

Because when the stars shine bright

and we sit in the open air

Discussing life by the firelight

we soon find things fair

So may we be for this lifelong fight

May our souls bond to a greater size

And lets promise each other we'll never lose sight

As we let the world hear our chant

BROTHERS...ARISE!

Let Me Breathe by J.M Barnes

How far do I wade? In this deepest of waters

The times I’ve tried to swim, like a lamb to the slaughter

The harder I try, the less I can go on this way

But I don’t need to breathe, unless you say its okay…

You let me know: When I can give a damn

You let me know: When I can lend you a hand

You let me know: When I’m considered a man

Will you let me breathe: I’m sinkin’ man!

I don’t even know, what it is anymore

I forget what it is I owe, and what I’m beggin’ for

No matter how hard I try, I just can’t get away

But I don’t have to see, β€˜cause I’m already dead anyway

You let me know: When it was that you cared

You let me know: When it was I didn’t share

You let me see: How I’ve screwed up your plans

Will you let me breathe: I’m sinkin’ man!

This hole it gets bigger, the longer I tread

My grave already open, I’m sinkin’ like lead!

The Vision and Scarlet Witch by J.M Barnes

The Vision was not human. He was a synthetic android embedded with a spirit gem. the gem endowed him with many of the personality traits of Wonder man. Therefore although Vision had been created to destroy the Avengers his good moral fiber and altruistic nature won over his original programming for many, many years.

Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, was the daughter of Magneto and a mutant with reality distortion capabilities. When she fell in love with the synthetic being many were shocked, including those among their own team, the Avengers. I don't know if anyone remembers this but they once released a limited series The Vision and Scarlet Witch. It was a true love story between two shunned, lonely people. One a synthetic android and the other a dangerously powerful mutant

Now, somewhere in time when I had no longer collected comics I have learned at one point Wanda lost her mind and the pregnancy that had begun in the limited series resulted
