Otis

There are cars filling our streets
and highways,
regarded by some to resemble a big
cement maze.
Covering fields and taking over land
once so lovely and green
homes condemned for more asphalt.
Progress it seems.

Venturing across these dangerous
roads without a ride
would surely be considered a case of
suicide.
In this hectic world he is considered
by some to be slow.
No matter, in no rush, he always gets
where he has to go.

No time to dawdle or nap his life is always
busy
he can find himself a little confused
and dizzy.
That may be the reason for the trail he
leaves,
while the gardener sees all his damage and grieves.

Working the night shift and scaling great
heights,
later relaxed and snug in his home,
everything’s alright.
Be careful dear Otis and stay in the wild
or you may not live to be more than a child.

Stay away from the cars and on your own
trail
or you may end up a squished little snail.
