“Close Your Eyes”

Close your eyes and you may never open them again; for this pain of isolation and separation is what you need to begin; For when you open your eyes you see her walking away for the last time, for the anguish and pain you’ve caused her will never leave your mind; For love shined on you and blessed you with a soul mate beyond all other, she finished your sentences and even loved you as she was your own mother; But yet you hurt her time and time again with your selfishness and arrogant ways, now you are forced to endure the pain of living with out her for the rest of your days; How could you be so acerbic and ignorant to think that she would stay with you; no matter what you do. I say close your eyes young man and deal with the punishment of your pain, for you may never open your eyes again, because you have nothing left to gain; I have seen hells fury and it has no comparison to a woman scorn, if I died a thousand deaths I’d still just wish to be reborn; Close your eyes for you have lost your soul mate and life partner, I may never open them again because to me this life is just a bother.

“A man Can’t Control The Sea”

Why do these words always formulate in my head? There must be something wrong with me, because I was trying to go to bed. Is this not a sickness that I suffer, for these words won’t leave me alone; especially when every one has left and I’m sitting in my home. I am a slave to these thoughts that force themselves upon me and desire to be heard, my head begins to hurt unbearably if I do not turn letters in to words. This is hysteria. I can not control my mind; just as men can not control the sea. So much anguish is forced and thrusted, if I do not turn words in to poetry. I am just a regular guy, I know I’m not insane, I can see in my minds eye but I can not control my brain. This is the gift and the curse; for I am in no more control of my talent, than a man who thinks he can control the sea. How can you find the spot that a never ending circle starts to begin? My piers I fear you can’t, unless your life comes to an end.

“Therapy 1”

You wana know FireWriter; well I’ll open up my soul and let you look in. It’s a lot a hurt, pain, and loss; followed by big sin. My first memories are of being touched by grown sin. The next memories aren’t that different; I had my Virginia taken by young women when I was half way to the age of 10. Follow me if you can, you’re inside FireWriter and these are the ingredients that forged the man. I skipped past the part about my dad getting caught with two keys when I was only 3. I was around 5 or 6 when he got out. They say I had long beautiful braids; my dad cut me bold headed and said I looked like a girl. Then it gets fuzzy cuz I use to drink the drinks that were left around; I was born in Cali in the 70’s, so by the age of 10 I could knock a whole brew down. And I didn’t even remember that until I started this session; Therapy 1 was good but two is gona be a blessin.

“The Age of lledneW”

You want me to write about Greek Gods and use a style that’s a thousand years old. The year is 2010 and I’m tryna inspire kids to be bold. Yes I use my own words and even a little slang, no I can’t spell that well but I bring excitement to this game. I mean come on really; you wana shoot me down? I have a style that’s all my own and sooner or later main stream will come around. It’s a mix between rhyme scheme and life experience. So no I’m not like you, and you can’t fit me in a box! I don’t spend my time tryna out smart everyone. I spend my time tryna inspire just 1. I’ve built up a following and yal don’t even know it, but sooner or later you’ll be calling me Wendell the poet. So before you judge the words I so elegantly put on the page, just remember Mr. Hockaday is tryna usher in a new age. An age where rap meets poetry and street smarts meets college degree. A man who writes every day, who is entertaining, and easy to read. I’m waiting on my next offer and it better be real, real good-cuz I can wine and dine you with words, or mentally walk you through the hood.

“Will You Be My Jane Doe”

Oh the sun is so shiny and the water is so light, light blue; the grass is dark green and my Jordans are so brand new.

I’m on my way to your house Jane Doe, and we’re going to walk through the park as the autumn leaves begin to fall; I thought this was spring time, but in the presence of your beauty its impossible to recall.

We’ll hold hands, will kiss, and I’ll even tickle you too; I’ll brush your beautiful red hair exactly the way you want me to.

And when we get to the spot where we first made love; we’ll look each other in the eyes and thank the heavens up above.

I’ll keep on holding you after your flower unfolds and you begin to shake; you’ll fall asleep in my arms and I’ll lay awake.

And when you awake I’ll still be holding you close, you’ll whisper in my ear and ask me;..…..“Who loves you the most?”

“It Still Hurts”

Have you ever knocked on a door looking for the love of your life, and she’s in bed with another actn like she’s his wife? I know somebody feels me. So I knock on a window and say, “I’ve got papers on that woman, and I’ve had them since September 27th 1999. So come on out side so I can whoop your behind.” So they called the police and I went to jail. I was on probation so I didn’t have a bail. So I’m sitting in jail wondering what I’m gona do with my life. That’s when I wrote Incarceration Communication and forgot about my wife.

“I’m Lookn For A Way Out”

Lookn for a way out,
That might not be your destiny.
Lookn for a way out,
That might not be your prophecy.
Lookn for a way out,
There might not be one to find.
Lookn for a way out,
Is what I’m doing with my mind.
Lookn for a way out,
Don’t loose yourself along the way.
Lookn for a way out,
Will I live to see another day?
Lookn for a way out,
Is it paper, pen, and me?
Lookn for a way out,
Will I live long enough to see?
Lookn for a way out,
But these offers are insulting me!
Lookn for a way out,
But I’m worth more than $100 a poem.
Lookn for a way out,
If you offered Wendell Wallace Hockaday Jr. that; you just don’t know em.
Lookn for a way out,
And yes I wana write professionally.
Lookn for a way out,
But I have to take the deal that’s best for me.
Lookn for a way out,
You see the talent I possess.
Lookn for a way out,
I just wana be the best.
Lookn for a way out,
So just offer me a real chance.
I’m lookn for a way out, but $100 will barely buy my 4 kids a pair of pants.

“Do You Know”

You want this big awe inspiring poetic literature. But the world is not like that. Do you know how many kids see their fathers murdered in front of them each and every day? Do you know how many mothers sell their bodies just to get drugs? When their own children are at home, just begging to be hugged. Do you know how many mothers have gone to funerals for this so called war? We still ain’t find Ben Ladden yet, so what’s the blood shed for? Do you now how many fathers get strung out on drugs, hit the streets and are never seen or heard from again? Do you know how many grandparents die from cancer before they ever get a chance to show their love? So don’t bother me with what you think poetry should be; I write from heart, mind, and soul; and that’s how it should be.

“Angels In Disguise”

Listen to me kids because this lesson is just for you; Its going to help you show other young people just what to do. The mentally disabled are really just angels in disguise. You might think you’re taking advantage of them, but GOD sees you through their eyes. You know right from wrong. Just because everyone else is laughing, it doesn’t make it funny. What if that was your sister or your brother, would it still be funny? No its not funny or cute to make fun of some one that is different then you! Just as you love your own mother and father they have parents that love them too. Oh it’d be a sad day in heaven for you to be standing at the gates; and find out that the gate keeper is a kid you use to make fun of. WOW, what a mistake. So if we treat everyone like and angel in disguise, maybe when we get to heaven we won’t be in for an unpleasant surprise. So if you’re popular in school, try and help out some body who’s not. And if your friends have a problem with that; then a true friend they are not.

“FireWriten”

I’m not tryna toot my own horn but I need a little recognition please. Who else can write with this strong content so consistently? Do you want me to tell you a story about some people who don’t exist? And give you a happy ending with a prince and a princess living in bliss. I can and I will but this ain’t the time for that. We got millions dying in the mother land and I ain’t gona stand for that! But this is not the time or the platform for me to elaborate, I’ll wait till GOD gives me the signal and puts it on my plate.

“Happy To Be 30 Plus”

Man GOD is so good.
This is for the people whose first 30 years of their lives have been a got dang shame. So much hurt and pain. So much stress on the brain. I’m here to encourage you
