She was so tire to see John and Lorrie together, it was her fault she introduced them, they could even get married but now nothing she did would make time turn back, he was out of her reach. When they were in college John and Ava were together all the time, they studied together and spent their free time together until of course Lorrie came into the picture with her carefree attitude and all her charisma and ton of money too. John had never noticed Ava until recently when he saw her with her friend Greg he had gotten so jealous and he didn't know why, as far as he knew he was in love with Lorrie and was ready to propose to her so what was all that all about?.
Every time she saw them together Ava felt a lump in her throat, she decided she had to let go of all her feelings for someone who was probably getting married to the hot Lorrie, she could never win in front of her and she was always ridiculed for being alone, like she wanted to much out of a relationship. Ava was getting tire of all the jokes when they didn't even know her feelings, John Williams had been in her dreams ever since she can remember. Greg had been after her for some time, he was a nice guy who was a coach at a high school, they really had been very close lately and she had been showing up with him at every get together and that raised some eyebrows like that afternoon at Ricky's when they had gone their to celebrate John becoming partner in his father company.
"So here is to my baby", Lorrie raised her wine glass and they all did too.
"Way to go Johnny boy, now you are on the raise", said Mark one of the group, a friend of John since they were in grade school together.
"Congratulations John", was all Ava could say, he smile and looked into her eyes in a different way but she just took her eyes away from his.
"We got to go", Greg said as he got up from the bar stool.
"Are you both leaving?, asked Lorrie.
"Yeah we have some tickets to a concert", Greg looked at Ava.
"You do?, are you two dating?, Lorrie looked at Ava was a strange look in her eyes.
"Yes, we are", Ava responded for Greg, they had been going out, she didn't know is that qualified as dating but lately they had been spending time together.
"Since when you date and don't say a word to me?, Lorrie seemed offenfed because she didn't know nothing about it.
"We started to date recently, besides is not a big deal"
"Is not a big deal that you are dating Greg?", Lorrie asked her but John came to her rescue.
"Oh come on baby let Ava breath, she have her own life, she can't be telling you everything she does"
"We got to go" Ava walked to the door and Greg followed her, once in the New York streets they both looked at each other and smile.
"Gosh she is so intense", Greg commented.
"We had been friends for a long time but she does get on my nerves"
"I still don't know what John sees in her", Greg didn't understand how an intelligent man like John felt in love with someone so shallow as Lorrie.
"Maybe he is truly in love with her, love never sees the other fault", they kept walking, the air was cool and Ava felt like drinking something hot to warm up.
"Thank you for saving my life in there with the thing about the tickets"
"I knew you were unconfortable, why do you keep their friendship?, don't you think is very masochist to see them when you feel the way you feel about him.
"You are so right, I have to be crazy to do that"
"You should do something about it"
"I know, I should, feel like drinking something hot like chocolate", Greg smile, he loved hot chocolate, that woman could read his mind.
"Exactly my thought, lets go to Chocobar"
"Sounds great", they walked in that direction and were silent for a while, the night was beautiful and Ava felt so good to be out of Lorrie's world, she was getting tire of getting sucked into her things and being in the middle of her jokes like she enjoyed putting her down.
"When did you fall in love with John?"
"In college, we were real good friends then I met Lorrie and she wanted to meet him so I introduced her, I never thought he was going to fall for her"
"But he did, you see you never can't predict people", they saw Chocobar and walked in, it was cozy inside, it was not that crowded as other nights. They approached the counter and ordered after looking at the board with the different chocolate drinks.
"I would have a chocolate with mashmellows with extra sugar and a powder doughnut with sprinkles, how about you Ava?"
"I want to chocolate with the whipcream and a plain doughnut"
"You want to get a table and I wait for the orders?", Greg asked her.
"Sure", she walked to one table on the corner and sat down their, a few minutes later Greg was there with both chocolates and doughnuts in a tray.
"It looks great", he said, her cell rang and Ava looked at her screen and saw it was Lorrie.
"Is Lorrie", the cell kept ringing and Ava didn't pick it up.
"Don't answer that, let it ring, she is probably testing you", Greg knew what he was taking about, for the longest time Lorrie had been the center of attention always making fun of others to make herself come on top as brigh as a star.
"Wow is good", Ava tasted her chocolate.
"Ouch", Greg put the mug down.
"Oh you got burned, got to be more careful", she touched his face softly, he felt something inside that made him want to talk once and for all but he just kept it all inside like he had done for the past two years since they met.
"I am going to live", Ava smile.
"I guess, you are, be more careful next time"
"I promise I will", her cell rang again and Ava looked at the screen.
"Oh God is her again, what is she the police patrol?"
"Looks like it"
"I am going to turn off this damm phone", and that is what she did, what is it with people that think they own the world?, who think they have the right to make others feel like insects, Ava was tire of all that and she was going to make serious changes in her life, she had finally come to her senses, no more being the friend that got ridicule in front of others, from now on she was going to show John and Lorrie that she was a woman worth making it on her own.
