chapter one. the guy

Standing outside the new club Night owl, I look at my friend shivering. It was 30 degrees out and she is making me wait in line with her. My high heels aching my feet, I groan. Pulling down my short dress I see Cindy slapping my hand.

β€œYou’ll ruin the dress,” she says concerned about the dress, and not why my lips are purple.

β€œWell its freaking freezing, and my feet hurt! What do you expect,” I ask sarcastically. She rolls her eyes and takes out a cigarette, then she offers me one, and I look at it in disgust. Sighing she put back in the box and stuffed it in her purse. Lighting it she puffs out smoke and I cough. I close my eyes wishing I was at home, and then I feel Cindy pulling me forward. I open my eyes and walk on my own. After ten minutes of arguing with Cindy, and freezing my butt off, we made it into the club. Loud music blasted in my ears, and everyone smelt like alcohol. I sigh and Cindy pulled me onto the dance floor. She started dancing wildly, while I stood there like a fool doing nothing. Seeing me do nothing Cindy rolled her eyes and left me alone, then danced with a hot guy. I maneuvered my way through the dancing guy and girls to the corner and sat down. Yawning I close my eyes, and lean back into the chair. I was about to go to sleep when Cindy’s scream echoed in my ear. My eyes open fast and I run over to her. She was on the floor holding her neck, she moved her hand and I stood there in horror. Her neck was covered in blood, her blood. She mouth β€˜sorry’ which left me confused, until hands came from behind me and I felt a breath on my neck. It was a trip, I thought to myself. Quickly, I took hold of the hand and twisted it unnaturally, but I didn’t hear a sign of hurt. Instead of doing it the easy way I twirl around and kick the man to the other side of the room, and heard him groan. That’s better, I thought to myself. Everyone in the club soon had their eyes on me.

β€œWhat’s going on,” I heard a voice boom with power. Everyone pointed at me, and I let my hand move to my heart and act offended. Ignoring all the stares and the man coming towards me, I step back and fall to my knees next to Cindy. I removed her hand from her neck and ripped part of my sleeve off, and wrapped it around her neck. Blood was already starting to bleed through it. I sigh and think to myself, my best friend is going to die. I felt a hand on my shoulder in sympathy, which made me flare up in anger, I smack the hand and heard it crack.

β€œI’m leaving don’t worry,” I whisper afraid if I speak louder they could hear the weakness in my voice. I stand up and turn around ready to leave, when the man stood there not moving. Stepping to the right I began to take a step further, but the man didn’t let me.

β€œVeve,” he asks me dumbfounded. I stood there as dumbfounded as him, no one called me that since I was younger.

β€œIt’s Veronica,” I reply, my voice cracking at the memories of when I was younger. I came here to collage to forget about it. The man stood there shocked and everyone was starring behind me. I banged my elbow behind me, and it caught someone’s gut.
β€œDude, you are strong for a girl,” the guy says from behind me. I was listening but I never took my eyes off the man or should I say guy since he was my age, in front of me. Looking deep into his eyes it all seems too familiar, his crystal clear blue eyes. Something flickered in them, something very familiar. I think back to my childhood, remembering all my friends. Among them were those same eyes. My grey eyes widen in recognition.
β€œAiden,” I say breathlessly, and then take a step away. Looking back at my childhood, I remember everything. My hand found its way to my cheek where I felt it throbbing, the scar that I had gotten when I was 9. Forgetting about Cindy dying, I look up at him. Well I did forget until now, my eyes shot over to Cindy and I rushed over to her again.

chapter two. Denial .

I felt her pulse, there was nothing. No, just no, she has to be alive.I didn’t realize I was crying until a tear slipped and fell onto Cindy, the lifeless dead Cindy.
