Rose

I remember the day of my wedding like it was yesterday. It was a delightful day comprised of the May sun. A cool breeze rustled in the atmosphere, calm, beautiful. Everything I ever wanted from a beach wedding and more. My nerves were sky high as I imagined the look on Declan Clint’s face as he waited for me at the other side of the altar. April, my cousin had done a wonderful job with my makeup and hair. The makeup was nothing heavy, just simple and sophisticated going well with light complexion. My auburn hair was pinned stylishly in bun that was secured by gorgeous ornaments and finally tucked away in my simple white veil. My wedding dress was a cream white and flowed effortlessly from my hips. Simple yet elegant. I felt that it spoke a statement of who I was.

When my father came up to me his eyes were glistening with tears which triggered my own. I gently wiped the tears that had threatened to spill as I held my father’s hands.

“You’re going to me cry if you don’t stop.” I let out a stifled laugh trying not to choke on my words.

“I can’t believe I’m here to see this day. My beautiful baby girl finally getting married. Could you not have waited to grow up faster?”

“I’m glad you’re here.” I whispered.

He gave me a soft smile ‘’ Well, I guess it’s time.’’

I gave a small nod taking in a long breath to help calm myself as I allowed dad to pull me gently to the entrance of my wedding scene. Soft classical music began to play in the background while my father and I began our strut to the altar. My eyes caught Declan as he gave me that smile that reminded me of the reason I had been charmed always by the bastard.

After the wedding Declan and caught an immediate flight to Hawaii and had the best honeymoon I could have envisioned. To be honest I was scared going into my marriage. I did not want to be one of those couples that regretted getting married too soon only to have a disastrous marriage leading to a divorce. Declan convinced me that we would do anything to prevent that from happening, even go to couple’s therapy together. If that was even possible. He was willing to step out of his boundaries just so it could make me happy. I Knew right then that everything was going to be okay _ Or I convinced myself it would.

In the course of our marriage I struggled with my own kind of insecurities. When your husband was a hot tall bundle of gorgeousness covered in sexy tattoos, who saw stunning women every day at his work, you couldn’t help but worry. There are times we went out together mostly with his circles and beautiful girls would practically flirt with him without an ounce of shame that his wife was watching. Declan being Declan talked to them friendly but never once shut down their flirting. It made me feel so mad and frustrated. I kept it inside because I never wanted to come off as the crazy jealous and scare Declan away. Eventually I started withdrawing from attending gatherings with Declan and just like that our relationship turned sore. We slowly drifted apart. We fought, made up sometimes only to fight again. Declan accused me of losing trust in him which was partially true. But can you blame me? He had girls coming to his tattoo shop asking tattoos in the most inappropriate places. I will never get the image of Declan’s hands as they worked on the breasts of a gorgeous blonde. She looked like she could climax just from the touch off his hands and never once hid it. I remember going back home, stressed out of my mind with the chocolate cake in my hands that I had meant as a surprise for his birthday. When Declan Got home later that night, I lost it.

‘’I can’t take this anymore.’’ I said. His hazel eyes looked at me in confusion as tears flew out of my eyes. Declan closed the space between us in long stride and hooked a finger under my chin too make me meet his eyes. It was a very awkward position because the top of my head only reached the middle of his chest. I was short, 5’3 and he was a large 6 foot and more.

He licked his lips and softly whispered. ‘’What’s wrong baby?’’ His voice held a deep concern that only added to the burning sensations in the pit if my stomach.

‘’ This. _’ I pointed between us ‘’ This fucking pretense, I’m done pretending that I’m okay with you going out every weekend with you friends and leaving me to drown alone in my sorrow while you flirt with every girl you see. I’m sick of this distance that feels like an ocean between us.’’ My voice cracked as tears spilled out of my eyes. Declan looked at me dumbfounded. His eyes glistened with an emotion I couldn’t quite place. Was it guilt, hurt or regret?

Whatever it was I couldn’t face it right now. I turned to leave but was shocked when Declan gripped my wrists in his hands. He looked at me with such intensity that I felt I would melt right then and there. His hands trailed down to my sides and shockingly gripping my hips. I gasped as he squeezed gently.

‘’Is that what you think , that I willingly flirt with all the women I came across, That I enjoy working on the bodies of women knowing that I have a wife ,Well if that’s what you think , then I guess you don’t know me as much as you claimed to.’’

I was extremely shocked by the words he had said and finally, I could see that the emotion in his eyes was hurt.

‘’Where did we go wrong Declan.’’ I whispered leaning my head against his chest. His heart was beating in a surprisingly calm rhythm and yet his body was anything like it. I peered up at him through my lashed. His jet-black hair had fallen carelessly in his face giving him a rugged yet sexy look.

‘’I’m wondering the same thing baby. Maybe it’s the distance. I remember before this marriage thing you and I were attached to the hip.’’ I did not miss the way he said ‘’This marriage thing, it was as if he had been disappointed by it.

Well that makes two of us.

Declan gently lifted m y head from his chest forcing me to look in his eyes. ‘’I don’t want to fight. ‘’

I sighed ‘’ Me either’’

I felt like breaking apart there and then, but my body was too exhausted for that. I just wanted to go to bed and sleep all this stress off my mind. Declan surprised me by grabbing my cheeks in both his hands and saying_ “Baby, I love you, more than anything in this world. Sometimes it still shocks me that I can be able to feel such a thing in my heart. I know I haven’t been the husband of the year but, _ I don’t want to lose you. Not over something we can control. So, I’m gonna get some more help at the shop, just so I don’t have to deal with the desperate cases.

In that moment, I saw Declan. I saw his pain and regret and the genuine look in his eyes. God! I was being a whiny brat and I knew It. My insecurities and jealousy had blinded me from the fact that what Declan and I had was special. When someone saw the ugly side of you and accepted you with no judgment that was all that a mattered, that was love, its what Declan and I had

‘’I’m sorry Declan. I really am. I don’t want you to make your work life complicated because I’m too insecure. ‘’ I groaned ‘’I’m being so immature and _

‘’Hey! I know its hard for you, but you have to trust me, okay, I would never hurt you intentionally. And don’t worry about work. I was going to get more help anyway.’’

I nodded softly but the guilt was still there. I had not trusted in Declan forgetting why I had fallen in love with him in the first place, his honesty and loyalty to me.

‘’I trust you Declan, and I hate feeling like this. I just _ I’m sorry’’ A few more tears gathered in my eyes making my throat sore.

Declan lowered himself to my eye level, hid black hair falling in his face. I reached out and brushed it from his face and he leaned into my touch.

‘’We’ll get through this.’’ He breathed

Just like Declan had said, we managed to get through everything. I brought up an idea of us going through couple’s therapy which Declan agreed to without a doubt. The therapist advised me to speak up more in our marriage and to avoid shutting down all the hurt and emotions to myself. Declan managed to get an extra hand and specifically chose to avoid working on women entirely but I encouraged him to go for it because it would have been selfish and immature of me to make him go through with that. I trusted him and plus I had managed to grow my self esteem and actually managed to go to the weekend parties with Declan. It felt great to feel in control of my emotions and feelings. I felt empowered.

On 5th May 2018 Emery Rose Clint was born, bringing light into our hearts and our world, and hopefully changing our lives for the better.
