Chapter 1
My first day of a new school in the middle of the year and I choose to wear my yellow tank with my dark green sweater, loungewear pants, and my night skate shoes. We have homeroom everyday and we can sit anywhere we want at any round table in the classroom. I decided to sit by myself at an empty table since no one was talking to me that day.
The next day, I wore some dark jean pants, a green baby-doll tank top with a brown button-up shirt.. When it came to homeroom, there were a bunch of preppy girls huddled around the table I sat at before. I saw a table with only two seats left available. I saw some guy with brown, curly, medium length hair and deep blue eyes. He was tall, medium built, and very attractive! I tried not to stare at him as I walked over to the table to sit next to him.
As I sat down I started to open my folder when a folded piece of paper appeared in front of me. I stared at it for a second then I looked up and saw the guy next to me say, “Read it..” So I took the note and read it.. He wrote, What’s your name? I wrote back, Kali. Your’s? I handed him the note. In a few seconds, I got the note back. He said, Brandon. I was really curious to know why he was asking so I wrote, Why do you want to know? I looked around for the teacher to see if she was looking. Then handed him the note.
There were a few people just staring at me, so I tried my best not to stare back. I turned around to look at the preppy girls at the other table to see what they were doing. They were giggling and passing notes. There was no doubt that they were talking about me since I was the new kid in town. I finally got the note back from Brandon.
I carefully opened the folded note. He wrote, Because I’m curious. Is it against the law to be curious? ;) I started to blush and I could feel it. I looked up and, sure enough, Brandon was smiling at me.
What if he was flirting with me? Or maybe he was trying to figure out who I was just like any other person would do if they wanted. I couldn’t think of anything else to say, so I wrote, What’s that supposed to mean? I know. Tacky right?
Well, as I was folding the note back, the bell rang for lunch. He jumped up, grabbed his books, and left the room. I just sat there, looking confused. I finally decided to get up and go to my locker, but when I grabbed my books, they fell to the ground as the preppy girls were walking out. They saw me, laughed, and walked out.
They must think I’m a joke, but I can’t be that bad. Brandon’s probably the most hottest guy in school and he was passing notes with me! So I picked up my books and headed for my locker. I wasn’t really hungry so I went outside and sat on the bench and waited for the bell to ring. It was really sunny and warm out.
Then, out of the blue, a shadow appears over me. I looked up and guess who it was? Three of the preppy girls I saw in homeroom. “Hello.” She said. “I’m Chloe.” She was skinny, blonde, and tanned. She had dark green eyes and looked like Paris Hilton with her mini white dress and tall high heels.
“Hey.” I gave a fake smile and blurted out, “I’m Kali. What’s your name?” staring at the other two. I was trying to be friendly to them. They were twins so I knew I would probably forget their names afterwards. The one on the right is bleach blonde, tanned, and had purple eyes! I figured she may have contacts. The one on the left is dirty blonde, tanned, and bright blue eyes.
Both of them have freckles. The bleach blonde said, “I’m Sara..” Then Sara’s sister said, “I’m Sam,.”. . . “Nice to meet you!” with a friendly smile. I didn’t think they were here to make me their friend. Obviously, because I’m brunette and my hair is way too long and giant curls.
I wasn’t exactly scared as you might say, but I have my moments with girls completely unlike me. I’m the skater type. I like to skateboard, and I’m not a girly-girl. Punk, rock, some metal music, that’s what I listen to. Those girls probably listen to all that sappy, girly music. Yeah, not my type at all.
I have a lot of friends back home. They’re skaters too. I just can’t stand the preppy type. I really don’t know why, I guess It’s because of my hometown. There was no preps there. I miss my hometown.
“So, Kali, where are you from? A small town, big town, the country? Tell me. I can’t figure you out. You aren’t, like, dressed like a girl. You don’t really look too happy today either. Is it because you’re the new girl?” I wanted to slap her across her face for talking that much. “Actually, I’m from a small town. Sandwich, Illinois, to be exact…” I was cut off by their giggling. “Sandwich?!” Chloe’s face was looking a little red from laughing too hard. “Yes, Sandwich. That’s my hometown. It’s where I’m from. I know it’s a funny name but, hey, I didn’t name it. Don’t blame me.” Chloe quit laughing and looked at me, “You sure do look like a sandwich…” I cut her off by saying, “What the hell is wrong with you?” which she definitely didn’t take too well.
I could tell because this is what she responded with. “Well, I hope we can be good friends. I have to go now. After school tomorrow. My place. I’ll be waiting outside the big red doors. Okay?”
“OK.”
I really didn’t want to go, but knew I had to. If only there was a way to get out of this situation.
