"Jenifer. Renee. Andrea. Dupuy." says my best friend, Stacey. She and I have been friends as long as I can remember. She has been with me through it all. Through thick and thin, she is always there for me; as I am her. There was this one time when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me. Stacey stayed up all night eating ice cream and watching cheesy chick flicks. I give her a lot of credit putting up with me. I don't know how she does it. I know I sure would be able to put of with a second me. Stacey is more calm, and mellow dramatic than myself. Unlike me, she can easily move on from a bump in the road in life. It is not that easy on this side.
"Sorry, Stacey. What did you say again? I missed it." I said trying to sound apologetic for dosing off from my convo with Stacey, looking at Ryan. Tanning, just across the pool from us. His long stature stretched out on the lawn chair, bare chest showing off that amazing 6-pack and his tan swimming trunks hanging low on his waist.
"Could you stop drooling over Ryan for just a sec?" Stacey says clearly a tad annoyed.
"I was so not drooling." I state, whipping my mouth quick; just in case before turning my head to look at her. "I just so happen to glance at him, how could I not. He is such a hottie!" I whisper/yell the last part. Stacey rolls her eyes at me.
"Jen. Focus. This is our senior year." she says 'senior' with emphases as if I could forget that. "You aren't going to get into Stanford if youβre too focused on Mr. Hottie than on getting in" she is so uptight and worried about college coming up after this year. We both have our hearts set on Stanford University.
"See, even you think he is hot" I say completely unfocused on the real topic here.
"That is so not the point here Jen, and you know it. If we plan on getting into Stanford than we can't afford to not work are butts off to make it there" she says getting back on track. "School starts back up this week. No more messing around. We had our fun. Do you want to get into Stanford, Jen?" she says this as if she doesn't know my answer already.
"Of course I do Stacey, you know that. We have dreamed about Stanford only for like. Ever" I say now trying to make my point clear that my head is 'in the game'.
"Good. I can't go to Stanford without you, so don't screw this up for me by falling head over heels for Mr. Hottie over there." she says with a smile loosening up the mood. "I'm serious though Jen. This is it, our last year to show Stanford why we deserve to go to their school."
I look her in the eyes, βYes. I know that, Stacey. This is just as important to me as it is for you. As soon as school starts we will be focused and busting our tails studying" I say honestly and truthfully. "But... until this girl" I point to myself, "is going to sit back and enjoy the perfect view of Mr. Hottie himself" I rush in saying. I turn and smile looking at Ryan talking to his friend. I hear Stacey groan. "Then, I promise. Focus on Stanford..... No boys" I said confidently.
"Yeah, sure. Ok we will see about that" she says in disbelief. "I'm holding this one against you this time tough" Stacey states, as a promise I know she won't let me back out of. Great.
