CHAPTER ONE

Urgh...what the hell? Alex Spencer? And he got the nerve to request to be her Facebook friend. Not gonna happen. Liz Parson wrinkled her nose in disgust and turned off her laptop. Alex Spencer had been a thorn in her sides for as long as she remembered. They attended high school together and in the same class. He was the school's bad boy and she was a tomboy. They never get along and when Liz first saw him, it was hate at first sight. He was a world class jerk and changed girlfriends as fast as he changed his boxers. Not that she knew whether he was actually wearing one. And he always bothered her to no end; calling her chopsticks and twigs. Pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose, she would glare at him and cursed. There was one thing she always did when he pissed her off; she would kick his desk until the thing toppled backwards with a loud thud. He gawked at his fallen desk and she would smirk in triumph. Serve you right for pissing me off. When he messed with one of her friends and dumped the poor girl after dating her less than two weeks, Liz exploded. She has caught her friend, Allison crying inside the girls' washroom and asked her what happened. Allison told her how Alex had dumped her after dating her less than two weeks. Liz marched toward the classroom when she saw him headed that way after coming out of the cafeteria. She shoved him from the back into the empty classroom and backed him toward a corner. She may be smaller and shorter than him but she wasn't afraid of Alex. To her he was nothing but a scumbag. "You're a scumbag, Alex Spencer and I hate you!"

Alex rechecked his Facebook wall for the sixth time. Humph...that sure went well. She doesn't even accept my request.  He leaned back on the chair and smiled, remembering her reaction every time he rubbed it in her face. She would explode like a bomb and her face flushed. What he liked best was the fire he would see in her dark brown eyes whenever she looked up at him in anger. Who said Liz wasn't cute when she was angry? She was. Then she would reward him with loads of curses. She had an impressive vocabulary, mind you. Alex was checking his Facebook when her name caught his attention about a week ago. He wasn't sure it was her, so he decided to do a little checking with his other former schoolmates. They assured him that was Liz. The one and only. Looked like she did become a writer in the end. He remembered she'd been writing since the age of fourteen. He always heard praises from their classmates regarding her works. He grinned when he remembered the day she backed him into a corner, pissed as hell. He remembered it all too well and because of that, he couldn't forget her even after twenty years. Being sixteen, she was too small for her age and too short. She always pulled her shoulder length dark brown hair back into a ponytail and she wore big glasses. But she was a little spitfire. You wouldn't want to mess with her. Even his friends were afraid of her. She wasn't like other normal girls. She was a tomboy and wasn't afraid to use her fists. To Alex, she was a challenge he hadn't found in other girls before. Her temper was well known in school but he had caught her staring into space a few times. He saw sadness in her eyes and it had stayed in his mind for as long as he could remember. There was a soft side in her that she didn't allow her friends to see but he'd seen it. He closed his eyes and almost groans out loud when remembering she had been standing too close that day as she jabbed a finger at his chest, pissed because he had dumped her close friend. Too close in fact he could smell the scent that was uniquely hers. Now twenty years later, he couldn't forget that scent.

It's been three months since Liz ignored Alex's request. Today she sat at her desk, staring at her laptop without doing anything. She stared at the request and bit on her lip. It's been twenty years for God sake. Couldn't she just let it go? Besides she didn't have solid reasons to hate him except for the fact they seemed to rub each other the wrong way all the time. Furthermore, they're not in the same town. Not anymore. He had left Oil Town years ago and resided in the city. After making a decision she knew she would regret later, she decided to add him before she changed her mind. Then she leaned back on the chair. There. She'd done it and hoped to God she didn't have to see him anywhere in Oil Town because if she did, she was gonna throttle the life out of him using her own bare hands. He was a jerk but she couldn't forget that day. She shouldn't have been standing too close to him. His male scent had invaded her nostrils and now her memories. She hated the fact that she found her past dates' scents had make her squirmed in disgust and even compared them to Alex's scent. Liz groaned and closed her eyes. She had to be crazy for letting him get under her skin like this.

Alex put the coffee mug on his desk as he settled down on the chair comfortably and turned on his laptop. The sun had set two hours ago and it was dark outside. His yellow Lab, Corey wagged his tail then settled down on the carpet near Alex's feet. Alex wasn't really into Facebook except for the fact he needed to reconnects with his old friends. It was fun knowing their lives had improved over the years. He envied their happiness. Alex was once married. He met Sophia while working on a project in Jefferson Town. She was a pretty woman and sexy as hell. They were married for three years before she filed for divorce. Alex had wanted kids but she told him she didn't want any. When he finished the project and was ready to go home to Oil Town, she had stubbornly told him she won't be leaving Jefferson Town. "What?" he shouted. "If you want to go, just go but I'm not coming with you," she said. "Jesus, Sophia. You're my wife!" She moved away from him with a frown. "I know that but I'm not coming with you. Period." Frustrated, he went home to Oil Town and two weeks later, he received a letter from her lawyer. Sophia wanted a divorce.
