and Astra in the front. Alexzander sensed my distress because he grabbed my hand and kissed each of my knuckles. I tried to smile, but it came out more of a grimace. I leaned on to Alexzander and felt his shoulder slightly rise and fall; I quickly fell asleep listening to Spanish music.
I was on a table when I awoke; my arms were tied down and I couldn’t shift. I struggled and called out in to the dark room, but no one responded, but a low chuckle. In the corner a dark figure slowly walked out and stopped before I could see his face. In my mind I could hear music playing creepy music and I quickly tried to shake it out, but it grew louder. “Who are you?” I called to the figure. All I know it could be a potted plant on a robot.
“That is the wrong question to be asking now.” His voice was smooth and silky, but had this edge towards it. He sounded familiar, but I could match his voice to a face.
“Why am I here?”
“Stop searching and just come to me,” he walked out of the shadows and I gasped in horror, “If you surrender now than I won’t have to harm anyone.”
“You think I am afraid.” The boy’s father walked up to me and gripped my chin. He grinned down at me, showing his perfect set of white teeth and dimples.
“I can see why one of my sons found you interesting. He definitely picked a…. special one, this time.” I spat at his eye and tried to shake his hand off my chin. He looked at me with flashes of anger crossing his face. He lifted his hand and left a red hand print on the side on my face; the sting spread through my face, but I didn’t cry out in pain. Instead I looked back at him and tried wiggling my way out of the ropes hold. Every tug and pull burned my skin, but I couldn’t stop. I went desperate and found my foolish attempts humoring the boy’s father.
He looked down at his watch and walked behind me, “Well this was fun, but it is time for you to go. We should do this another time.” I felt a wooden board hit my head and I passed out. I woke up in the jeep with a headache, a lump on my head, a red mark on my face, and a new reason I couldn’t wait to get my hands around his neck.
Chapter 40
Astra
The thrill of me driving the jeep was amazing. It was like another form of being free. When we got out of the car, I was slightly disappointed.
It was so nice to drive. “I’m so going to buy one of these when all of this is over.”
Everyone else was stretching. “And you would be the one to get us here in two hours.” Said Collin.
“I can always drive us back.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. You were great.” He kissed me.
“Apology accepted.”
“The paper said to look around the dock.”
“Alright then. Collin and I will go together. Alexzander and Nova. Then Scott is by himself. We’ll meet back here in thirty minutes.”
We walked around for a little bit. Not really finding anything. “You know, this isn’t easy.” I said.
“Nobody ever said it was going to be.”
I shrugged. As I looked out to the water I saw a series of boats. All sorts of boats sail boats, catamarans, yachts, and other types of boats. I saw a nice looking catamaran. It wasn’t normal looking, it looked very high tech. And it drew me to it.
I walked closer to the edge. Not even aware that I was about to walk off the edge until Collin pulled me back. “You didn’t hear me calling you huh?”
“No. I think I might know where Henry Giles is.” I pointed out to the water.
“I’m not letting you go by yourself. We don’t know if he’s dangerous or not.”
“My grandfather wouldn’t send us to a person he didn’t trust. Plus, it doesn’t look like that boat is going to be coming back anytime soon.”
Collin closed his eyes and sighed. “Alright. You go. If you’re not back in ten minutes I’m calling in the Calvary.”
I kissed him on the lips. Then I jumped into the water.
I had turned into a seal before I hit the water. I swam to the boat. Then I turned into a bird into a bird and flew up onto the deck. I then turned back into a human.
“Turn around and put your hands on your head.” Said a male voice. I did as he said. “If you try shifting, I will kill you.” He was a man of my height, and a muscular build.
“I’m not going to hurt anyone. I’m looking for Henry Giles.”
The man didn’t relax his stance. “Turn around and lift your hair.” I did as he said. “Come with me.”
With that he left. I was slightly confused. It was as if he was expecting us.
He stopped at a door. “When you go in, wait to be spoken to.” Was all he said.
I went in and did as he said. I was surprised to be in a small office. A man was on the phone. “Yes I know what happened yesterday. And it’s time for me to go. Give my best to everyone.”
He turned to me. “It certainly has been a long time since I last saw you. And you have grown up quite a bit.”
I studied the man closely. He did seem awfully familiar. In the back of my mind I knew I knew him. But it didn’t seem to click. I must have had a grim look on my face because Henry laughed. “I’m sorry but I don’t remember.”
He nodded. “That’s understandable. It has been a few years since I last saw you. I believe it was at your grandfather’s funeral.”
Then it dawned on me. “You were the guy that had all that security around him.”
“Yes. I’m sorry that we haven’t kept in touch. But it was honestly for the best.”
“So you know what we’re here for?”
“I do. But I believe it would be best to get the rest of your group. Then I’ll tell you the things you want to know.”
I totally forgot about everyone else. “Sure thing.”
Chapter 41
Alexzander
Nova kept tripping over herself and fumbling over things. I was worried, but every time I tried to help she would just push me away and say everything is all right. “Nova, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” She walked ahead of me and grabbed her head. She tripped a little again, but acted like nothing happened. I grabbed her elbow and spun her towards me. A huge red mark was across her face and a bump was beginning to grow on her head.
“What happened?” I tried touching her, but she flinched so I backed off. “Who did this to you, Nova?” I tried asking again, but she shook her head and lost her balance. I picked her up off her feet and carried her back where we were supposed to meet everyone. She struggled at first, but once we got there she was knocked out cold.
“What happened to her?” Astra ran up to me and looked down at Nova.
“I don’t know. She didn’t tell me and passed out.”
“Well, bring her inside,” A male voice broke the silence. I turned towards him; he has short gray hair and a short beard. He was tan and muscular and if he wasn’t something years older I would have been jealous. Astra took Nova out of my arms and walked up the boats stairs. I followed behind them feeling over protective and needing to get by her side. “I’m Henry, Henry Giles.” I shook his hand.
“I am Alexzander Crawford.”
“Crawford? You mean as the HS’s royal family, Crawford?”
“Yes.” I started to shake slightly as I felt Henry studding me. He softly smile and motioned me to come in. Collin and Scott were already in the office with some kind of juice in their hands. Another guy came in a little shorter than me, but I wouldn’t mess with him. I sat next to Scott; Henry watched all of us from behind his desk. “Well, tell me how you got here.” Henry said.
“Let me see where to start.” Astra walked in. We talked about the first time Nova got attacked to how we got here. Henry listened and asked question from now and then. He took notes and typed on his computer as well. Sometime in the middle of it, I couldn’t handle it anymore and went to look for Nova.
The boat was huge and it took me at least thirty to find her room. She was still sleeping, but the red mark has gone down dramatically. I laid down next to her and pushed back the hair on her face. She was smiling in her sleep and reached out to grab me. She wrapped one of her arms around my waist and put her head on my chest. I didn’t want to wake her up, but we needed her out there. “Nova wake up,” I softly said.
She opened her eyes a little and shook her head no. She cuddled closer to me and her smile brightened. “I don’t want to.” She mumbled in my chest.
I sighed and picked her up. I carried her though the hallways and stopped before we went into the room. I set her on her feet and kissed the top of her head. “Everybody is in here.” I pulled her in with me and we sat on the couch again. Nobody noticed that we walked in, but I don’t even think they noticed I left.
“Happy to see you awake.” Henry turned toward Nova.
“I’m happy to be awake,” She smoothly said back.
“If you don’t mind, could you tell us what happened? Alexzander told us how you had a bump on your head and passed out, but I want to hear if from your angle.”
Nova slightly shook herself and told us her dream. I felt my anger grow with every word she said. I wasn’t angry with her, but my father. I could sense Collin and I were thinking the same thing. Payback.
Chapter 42
Collin
I was too angry for words. I was trying so hard not to punch a wall. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and saw Astra standing there. “You don’t need to worry about us. Your father can’t hurt us now.”
“But that’s the thing. When you sleep you won’t be safe. He’ll be able to get you at anytime then.”
“We just won’t sleep then.”
Nova laughed. “Remember that one time we stayed up for four days drinking Monsters and Red Bull?”
“Totally. We were so hyper. I’m kind of surprised that we didn’t kneel over and die of a heart attack.”
I just shook my head and sighed. “We’ll have to figure something out.”
Henry coughed drawing our attention. “Your grandfather wanted me to help you. And in order for me to do that you’re going to need to trust me.”
“What exactly is it that you want them to do.” I said.
“Before your grandfather died he came to me. He told me that he someone was trying to kill him. But he didn’t know who. And he asked if this person were to kill him, I would take care of you. And I’ve been thinking of a way for me to do that. Since I’m in this world, my power is limited. But I finally thought of something. I want them to come
