my bag . 'And don't tell anyone about Sam.'
She nodded and said bye.
I walked home. It was dark but I only lived 13 houses away from Cassie so It only took 5 minutes. I heard something shuffle. I looked back and screamed. It was some guy in a hoodie. He was about to put his hoodie up but I punched him to the ground. He groaned. He was trying to say something. I took the hoodie off to see who this idiot was.
Sam.
'OMG, Sam I'm so sorry, i thought it was - but it was - your Sam.' I said without making sense. I can't believe I punched Sam in the face.
'Hey Kaylee, Its fine it doesn't hurt much. Ouch!' He said while touching his eyes. He was on the floor trying to get up. I was actually standing there too shocked to help.
When I was out of my shock, I quickly helped him stand. Even though this wasn't the right time, I had butterflies in my stomach.
He got up with my help and we were so close that our noses were about to touch.I looked at his eyes. He looked at me and lips. Having a feeling of wanted in his eyes. I could stare at them forever. The green in his eyes was like a forest. I quickly pulled away because I saw the bruise on his eye. I quickly touched it.
'Ouch' He said while closing his forest eyes.
'Sorry.' I mumbled. Too embarrassed to say something else, we started walking home.
'Stupid karate lesson.' I mumbled, unknowingly.
He laughed. I can't believe I said that out loud. I don't go karate lessons now but I used to go with my dad before he died. He died with cancer. I would have died for a day more with him.
But as they say, life is unfair. But I had to keep my past behind me as my dad used to say. Whenever I used to have a fight with Cassie when i was 6 or someone hurt me, I used to tell my dad about it and he used always say the same line. 'Always keep the past in the past.' And that's what I did. I never got tired of the line. I knew whatever my dad said was true. He only lied once when he said he wouldn't leave me.
-
'Look, I'm sorry, I didn't really expect you here.' I said apologizing for the 100th time.
'Hey, don't worry. It happens. I came up to you really secretly, I would have been surprised if you didn't punch me on the face.' he said, reassuring me. I smiled.
'So what is a beautiful girl like you doing here in the dark?.' We were walking down the street. We walked slower, none of us wanting to go home.
'Oh, I was in my friend's Cassie's house. She lives just here so I just go walking instead of calling my mum.' I said while blushing at his compliment.
'Cool, so your mother came earlier to my house and I couldn't help overhearing that your birthdays coming up.'
'Yeah, 16th.'
'Happy Birthday.'
'Isn't that a bit quick?'
'You never know, I might die and the 'happy birthday' wouldn't have came to you.'He said while laughing.
I stopped walking. 'What? don't say that.' I sounded more angrier than I should have. Its just the thought of Sam dying was heart breaking. I didn't want him to talk like this.
He stopped in his track, he looked me in my eye and said 'Kaye, sorry, I thought it was funny-'
'Well its not.' I said more softly. I looked down feeling embarrassed that I care so much about a person who I've only met twice. But it was Sam. I never knew I had this big of a feeling. I've always had crushes. But this was different, it felt more valuable.
His fingers touched my chin making me dizzy. He made my eyes the same level as his eyes and looked deep into them. I wanted to say something, anything to make him know that I was kidding. But all I could do is look in his forest eyes.
'Sorry' he said.
'I-' my mobile started ringing. That must have been my mum. I had no intention of picking that up because she just ruined the perfect moment. Sam looked down at the street. He must have been embarrassed like me.
When my mobile stopped ringing, Sam said 'Hey, Kaye I would love to meet you again sometimes, maybe tomorrow?'
'Yeah, and sorry if I was acting weird.'
He nodded like he understood. He held my hand and looked into my eyes.
'Bye.' He whispered into my ear.
I didn't want him to leave but what can you do?
He turned and started walking to his house. I smiled.
For the first time, I wanted to chase after him. And tell him everything I felt. Even though I couldn't express them in words.
Chapter 3

I can't get him out of my mind. Hes stuck!!! I never knew i would like him this much. I mean, I did think I will find the 'one' but I never knew it would interfere with my school and studying. Whats wrong with me? Its like I want to be with Sam, even if I need to miss a day out of school. Its crazy!!!
'Well?' Mr Robinson said looking at me with the most annoyed face.
'What?' I said, I just tuned on. I was in History class and Mr Robinson asked me something while I was thinking about something that is handsome but annoying (in my head).
Everyone stared at me. Oh Man! I didnt know the question he was asking me.
'What did you ask sir?' I said. Everyone groaned. Look, I'm sorry everyone but boys and studying can go either way. And I can't do both of them at the same time.
'Kaylee, I told you 3 times what the question wa-' The bell rang. Finally!
Instead of finishing his sentence, he just went back to his seat for his daily sleep.
'Whats wrong?' Cassie asked while we were going out the door. 'It looks like you haven't slept.'
I haven't because this boy is making my head do crazy things like stare out the window at night for any sign of him. Nothing. But I do know what cats be upto at night. And trust me, you don't want to know.
'Nothing, I just had a lot of studying to do.' I said while walking to the locker.
'Oh ok, so when you gonna send an invatation for your birthday?' Cassie said while she combed her hair from the locker's mirror. We don't really have mirrors on our locker, but Cassie somehow does. Some people say she manipulated the headteacher to put it in. I say that she got one from home because she was tired of going to the bathroom to sort her hair out.
'Well, I thought maybe we can shout it out in lunchtime and everyone can pass it onto their friends.' I said. I really didnt wasnt to print invitations out. It seems weird to everyone but not to me.
'Okay, I'll ask Joe to do it.' She said while combing her fringe for the 20th time. Joe was the most popular guy in school. Blond dirty hair, dark brown eyes. He was cute but very closed. He never let girls in. Im not saying he only went out with girls because of their bodies, he just didnt want girls to know more about him than everyone already knows. But apart from that, he was Cassie's and my bestfriend. Hes awesome.
'Well, I got to go home.'
I turned around and just when I was about to run for my life, Cassie said 'Wait a minute.'
I turned around, playing innocent. 'What?'
'Why are you in such a hurry to go home? she said while walking around me like she was playing good cop bad cop, 'you normally walk slower than my cousin Tom's turtle to get out of the school gates.' It was true. I am the most slowest walker. I just really feel lazy when it comes to walking. And don't get me started at running.
'Look, I just got places to be and people to see.' I said acting casually. But I knew Cassie could take it out of me.
'OK, what places and what people? eh? She said leaning closer and looking me in the eyes.
'OK OK.' I said tired of this charade. 'I am going to go see Sam, he asked me out.' Sam texted me after our karate incident and told me when he will come to take me to the movies. That was the other reason I couldn't sleep at night.
'What? you didnt tell me? She said looking offended.' You didn't tell your best friend?'
'No No No, I just didn't want anyone to know about this date, you know how I like it, I didnt want anyone to make me nervous.'
'Okay, I understood, Its been ages since you had a date, and you deserve it.' She said while we were walking out of the school. 'So when do you want me to come?'
'For what?' I said looking confused.
'For your makeover!' She shouted like it was obvious. Actually it was obvious because whenever I had a date, I used to tell Cassie to find me the perfect dress and the right makeup to wear. Its just been ages since i had a date so I was very confused.
'Ok, meet me at 5, the date is at 7, bring makeup and nothing glittery, its just a movie got it? I said. It looked like I was telling her orders like the Captain told orders to his sailors. And as the sailors did, Cassie nodded. I just don't want anything to go wrong. And there is one day to get this right. I can't rewind it if it all goes horribly wrong. If it does go wrong, I will go home, lock myself in the closet and come out when the world has moved on.
