“Come-on…Riya ……Yeah great……good make him dance as well,” was the voice I could hear. I had no choice, so I started moving as well to the beat……. And there were clap and clap from others…. I just wished the song gets over soon. By this time she grabbed my hand and started dancing, I was feeling very uneasy and was looking at the floor and she was smiling and looking at me.

“Come-on baby…it’s not that difficult you see….you dance well…you were scared uselessly, we are not having any dance competition here ….we are just having fun…soooo enjoy.” She said and smiled.

The song was still continuing “jaye jaye jawani fir na aaye” I was moving along with her and somehow my eyes met with Sakshi, she was there in front staring at me with a not so pleasant look, I could gauge from her looks that she was not enjoying this fun at all.

Her words ran in the back of my mind…. “Keep a safe distance from my friends, especially Riyyyyaaaa” and crap I was dancing with Riya and that also alone holding hand in hand. The adrenaline level in me rose, the moment I realized Sakshi’s word, I set myself free from her and pulled Sanjeev as well on the dance floor and we three dance together, in the mean time I was watching Sakshi, she was just staring at me. Everyone was clapping and shouting, but she was just staring at me… I feel a bit scared, I thought she might be upset with my behaviour so I slowly moved out but was pushed again by other girls. While all this time Sakshi was staring at me. Soon we were joined by other girls and I dance with everyone, actually we all dance with each other. Yes, I got a chance to dance with Sakshi as well, though she dances, with me, but wasn’t that happy, I could easily gauge from her eyes. I was tired, so I moved from the dance floor stood near the sofa. Everyone was dancing in full mood, including Aunty. I just sat on the sofa watching everyone dancing; Sakshi was there in the middle dancing and looking at me from time to time. Then after some time she came out as well and went directly to the kitchen and bought two glasses of Pepsi. She sat near me and handed me one of the glasses.

“So you were enjoying a lot dancing with Riya, did you find her attractive?” She taunted.

I didn’t say anything, just smiled and had a sip from the glass.

“Reply to me….what happened??? I asked you something.” she said, raising her voice.

“What can I say, they are your friends, you know better than me.” I replied.

“You have a problem dancing with me, but with her you were dancing in full swing…. Why???” She argued.

“No… its nothing like that, I don’t have any problem even dancing with you.”

“Yeah, I could see, how well you enjoyed dancing with her, holding hand in hand. What have I told you...Stay away from Riya…….right,” You guys are just sick.

“But did I do anything wrong, why are you blaming me? Even you saw how I was just pushed to dance, they were just not letting me go, I myself was feeling very uneasy. Besides that, I was not aware she was Riya.” I replied convincingly.

“Ah ha-ha…”She mocked her face and said. “Yes…. Yes you didn’t do anything, she was falling for you, and you were there just like a statue, what do you think of yourself? Hrithik Roshan or Shahrukh Khan? That girls are dying for you.”

“No, I don’t think anything….. I am just a common guy.” I replied.

“I am reminding you again, just stay away from her.” Her tone became louder.

“But why, I haven’t done anything wrong, beside she is your friend.”

“I know she is my friend and I also know what she is capable of doing. Don’t argue, do as I say.” She commanded.

“Are you feeling jealous?” I smiled and asked, taking sip from my glass.

“Jealous and me…..ohhh forget it.” She said, mocking her face.

“But whyyy???” I enquired.

“There’s no question of ifs & but, do as I say.” She replied while getting up.

“But there is a reason for everything.” I asked again.

“Yes, there is a reason…… because I-,” she said and paused.

“You what?” I asked her again.

“Nothing!!!!! Just shut your mouth… I don’t want to see you dancing with anyone, anyone means anyone…and that includes Riya as well. Is that clear????” She commanded.

“Yes Boss!!! I will do as you wish.” I said and smiled.

She looked at me, but didn’t smile and went back and joined the dance floor. As I said girls are always strange, you never know how they will react. “ Ohhh God !!!! Girls… Girls, the most complicated creation of this world.”

But by this time I was sure she had started liking me as well her behaviour proved me that I was right. I just wanted to see her happy so I kept myself away from the dance floor and enjoyed watching everyone dance, especially Sakshi, she is a fabulous dancer and I was mesmerized by her dancing moves….she was simply awesome and stood apart on the floor…. I kept on smiling and watching her silently from one corner of the room. Sakshi was there dancing in the middle and from time to time looking at me and whenever she did that I smiled, firstly she didn’t respond a few times, but after some time she smiled too…and her smile made “My Dil go zoooooommmm ……..zoooooom” same as the song was playing in the background “My Dil goes zoom zooooom zoooom” The girls tried to pull me again and again but this time I managed to escape. After sometime Riya came out of the floor and bought a glass of Pepsi for herself and came near me.

“Thanks and same to you.” I replied in quick being setback by her sudden advances and the moment I turned my face, I saw Sakshi staring at me furiously. I looked helplessly at her, but she just turned her face and started dancing again. I was totally blank what should I do.

I talked with Riya for a while and then astutely escaped to other room to avoid those glaring looks of Sakshi. I was lying on the bed, there in Kaushik’s room, the music was still playing in the hall and I could hear sounds of clap and laugh. After a while Sanjeev came to the room and we chatted for a while. It was around 10:00 pm Sakshi came in the room and called us for dinner, everything was ready there on the dining table. Everyone started picking plates and serving on their own, I too filled my plate and started moving towards Sakshi but as soon she saw me coming towards her, she stood up and moved to the other side near one of her friends. I felt a bit bad, I knew why she was doing this, but somehow I was also enjoying this. I just sat there and silently had my dinner. I could see; from time to time she was staring at me, as soon my eyes met her, she drifted her eyes elsewhere, this continued till we finished our dinner. After dinner her friends went back home and she went downstairs to see off them. Me, Kaushik and Sanjeev were there, sitting in the other room. I look at the wall clock it was quarter to eleven.

“I must leave.” I said to Kaushik.

“Yeah, it was nice you came, we had fun together after so many years.”

“Yeah buddy, it was really fun.”. I said, while getting up from the bed.

Then we all came out of the room, Sakshi was there in the hall along with her Mom and Raju. I said goodbye to everyone and looked at her, but she just drifted her face, pretending she didn’t notice. I didn’t say anything and came out along with Sanjeev and Kaushik. We all went to the nearby pan shop and had a cigarette, Sanjeev didn’t smoke. After finishing our fag, we all bid adieu and departed to our respective destination.

Around 11:30 pm in my hostel room, I was lying on my bed, my mobile beeps, there was an SMS. I opened to read.

“Good night”. Just two words and this time without her initial.

I replied back “Good Night & Thanx”

Prompt was the reply “Thanx?????” with those so many question marks.

This time I didn’t replied and dialed her number directly.

“Hi! Is it okay, calling you at this hour?” I enquired.

“Yeah, its fine, the door is locked from inside and today Raju is sleeping with Mom since

Dad is not here.”

“Ohh that’s good.” I responded.

“But you are not good at all.”

“Why? Did I do something wrong?” I asked her straight.

“Ah ha-ha, don’t try to act innocent. All you boys are same. I didn’t like the way you were getting close with Riya.”

“Ohhh Sakshi stop it!!! Not again please, I was just being nice to your friend that’s it.”

“Are you mad!!!! Why should I give? She is only my friend’s friend, I don’t like her much and we are just my classmates, we don’t share that kind of bonding. And above all, I don’t like her being over friendly with you.”

“Yes I am, so what’s the big deal. Do you have any problem?

“Nope, I am fine with it.” I said and laughed.
