Prologue
"Stop, you're hurting her!" a voice rang out. "Shut up. No, put the needle in her arm!" Nobody is quiet today. The experiment is about to be tested. She either lives or she doesn't. The baby is laying on the bed, soft skin and closed eyes. Human. But not for long. The needle goes into the baby's arm and she wakes up, wailing. She curls into a ball and lies still. The scientists gasp. Then the baby wakes up and the scientists gasp again. She was no longer human.

Fur travled the length of her tiny body and a tail curled itself around her leg. Her

tail. Whiskers graced her face and she stared up at the scientists with slitted, sparkling green eyes. She had large attentive ears on top of her small head. The female scientist spoke, tears of joy glimmering in her eyes.

"Roxy..."
