Chapter 1

My heart pounded as I slowly shifted the glass form the pane. Pulling my tattered bag through the wall with me I slid out in a graceful motion as if I had run away a million times. Which I had. I dance across the lawn careful to avoid the motion activated alarms and booby traps across the knotted ground. As I rounded the corner I broke into a run only to slam into a huge figure who lifted me up without breaking a sweat and put my struggling body back into my room.

Rats! I had been trying to escape for months now but it was almost impossible to without getting caught. I know almost nothing. I have parents. They are only mysterious figures now, though. I have a name. It is Gracie. I am only a child. I am very valuable. On April 6th 2219 I was taken. On July 27 I  made my first escape. On December 2nd They started taking away my food for a day anytime escaped. I have been here for a year. Everytime I make a break for it They drug me and relocate me. I am not scared I just know that I have to get out or something really, really bad will happen.

I have escaped twice now and I think they are running out of places to keep me. I heard one of the guards muttering under his breath that there was only one more place that I could stay after this. Score! Someone’s coming have to go.

Oh. My. God. Yesterday someone unlocked my door and I was let out of my room. Only for 15 minutes but still! There was a long hallway with a small door at the end of it. I creaked the door open and guess what? I was outside! There was grass and trees and flowers and even a swing set. It was amazing.
