The rose-colored sun began to set as he cleared the ridge. Finally, he thought as he studied the rock-studded valley before him, his sister's death would not be in vain. He would make the world suffer.
“I want to be remembered,” she had whispered that evening, while they waited for the soldiers to find them. “I want to change the world, I want them to know my name.”
All these years later, her words still haunted him. They had developed their Strengths, and been used as weapons in the wars. Cordelia had died in the trenches, her Strength insignificant, without ever making a name for herself. He was known as The Avenger, his exploding Strength legendary. The world the war was over. Now was the time to let them know they were wrong, that the war was just beginning.
It was said that the quarry was full of fire crystals, the kind that exploded when disturbed. Slowly, he made his way down the slope, careful to stay on the grey rock. He crossed the center of the pit, to stand in the entrance of the tunnel. Some had come to call the quarry Slave's Grave, so many captives had died as they freed the crystals from their rocky cradles. Now, it would become even more famous.
He focused on his Strength, building it up in him like a volcano until he couldn't hold it in any longer. He released it at last.
He would make them remember her.
