There was a carnival atmosphere in the air. Children running and playing around the many vendors hawking their wares. Everything from balloons to food and ice cream. There were a few scattered gallery games among the vendors where young men were trying to impress their dates with their skills. Loud-speakers around the huge field hissed small echoes as they stood by ready to announce any updates on the happening that was occurring this humid summer evening. The first meeting with an alien race from outer space.
In a compound on the outer edges of this gathering of humanity was a group of scientists, government heads of state, news people and the military. Among a group of scientists and reporters milling around the area, General Taylor and secretary of state Jenkins were talking. "Has there been any late contacts with the aliens?" asked the secretary of state of the General. "It's been about three hours since we've had any word from them as of now." he replied, "As you know, we have our best interpreters working in the communications room and have come pretty far in breaking down the language barrier." "The best estimate we come up with for their arrival is about 8:30pm EST."
The commander of the ship from outer space turned to his navigator/ interpretor and asked, "Are all the landing plans in force?" "Yes" Angeh replied. "We have all the co-ordinates for a successful landing and all should go well." "There is a clearing we have picked out for the touch down." "Good, we should be making landfall right after Terran nightfall. I understand they have many dignitaries out to welcome us to terran!" "Kindly notify them our arrival is timely."
Roger and his family were just walking aroung the area waiting for this momentous event. Eight year old Howie was complaining he was hungry and pestering Roger and his mom to get something to eat. His mom looked at her son and husband , smiled, and said, "Hot dogs and shakes seem most fitting for this day." Roger agreed and they started looking for a hot dog stand among the vendors.
General Taylor was handling questions from the reporters while the Sec. of State was on the phone with the President of the U.S. As the time for the landing neared, you could feel the electricity in the air as the realization of what was happening started to spread through the hordes of people. The excitement was building up to a fever pitch as the time seemed to crawl, seemingly slower and slower. Finally the radio signals came through the that the aliens were fixing to make their appearance. The entire planet was glued to their radios and televisions awaiting this moment.
Angeh was checking his instruments to insure that their selected touch-down was as predicted and was satisfied that everything was on schedule. The commander announced to the Terrans they were landing as planned and had their co-ordinates right on.
General Taylor and the world were all listening to the broadcast as the aliens made their landing preps. All eyes were on the skies and yet no ship was in sight even as the aliens reported they were touching down on the brown clearing selected for the landing.
Suddenly the commanders voice was intensely concerned as he spoke to the world. "We have landed and something is terribly wrong! The space ship is sinking into the field. We seem to be engulfed within the clearing and there is tremendous pressure closing around the ship. What is happening to us? Is there any help for us? The temperature is rising at a fast rate and the heat is stifling. There is much moving and shaking. The crew is starting to panic, AAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHH, help, help us." Then silence. All earth was wondering as they listened. What happened? Where is the landing party?
Roger and his wife stood as in a trance as they listened. Little Howie, not fully realizing what was happening, took a bite of his hot dog and chipped a tooth on an object within his sandwich. Opening up the bun he looked and saw what seemed to be a tiny space rocket crushed from his bite into the chili dog...................
