Facing the Wall

Flight training the following day was not as eventful. Korven kept far away from Zormna who was being teased by the girls in the class who were pinching her cheeks and poking her dimples calling her 'baby doll'. They talked to her as if she were stupid. But as soon as she got a flight pad, she was up in the air faster than they could handle, and had gone higher than they could reach. The usual stuff.

"Leave her alone," Salvar said once Zormna was in the flight paths.

"Oooo!" they chimed together, laughing. "The Kevin's son has a crush on her!"

"Are you going to marry her?" One of the girls cackled.

"No! She's like my sister!" Salvar snapped back.

But they continued on with it anyway, singing together, "First they hold hands. They hug. Then they kiss. It goes something like this this this!" They made kissing noises. "And after the kissing and hugging, oh maybe… will soon come a big fat baby!" They were laughing together in pure enjoyment.

Zormna swooped over them, her flight pad nearly skimming the tops of their heads.

The girls screamed ducking.

Salvar staggered back, staring after her as she wickedly soared off from them. So did the rest of the class. Some of the boys were laughing. Korven stared after her in horror. She really as was the best pilot out of the class. Everyone was jealous.

"Hey!" Alea Sholda shouted after her, watching her whip upside down and up into the flight paths with frightful skill. "That's inappropriate flying! Get down here this instance!"

Zormna pretended not to hear him.

"I said get down!"

Chuckling, Salvar watched her heave a weary sigh then expertly swoop back into the loop toward the waiting cadets. She flipped with a hop off and caught her pad. It amazing how much better she was getting at it. Soon she'd be fit for personal scooter trainingβ€”way ahead of the class, as usual.

"Give me that pad!" Alea Sholda stuck out his hand.

Zormna handed it to him.

"Face the wall!"

Heaving a sigh, Zormna did.

Alea Sholda seethed at her. "If you ever do that again, I will see to having you banned from the flight hall." He then shot a dirty look at Salvar, challenging him to argue so he could get in trouble too.

Salvar kept his expression placid. However, he noticed Zormna smirking to herself, her forehead against the plaster.

And the class continued.

Zormna spent most of it staring at the wall.

"My, my, what did she do this time?" Alea Arden's voice echoed as he approached their instructor near the end of their work period.

Alea Sholda muttered something back to the young new head of Alpha. Alea Arden burst into laughter then marched over to her. He winked at Salvar who was waiting his turn for a pad still then whispered to Zormna who was nodding off while on her feet. "Dive bombing catty little girls is not proper Surface Patrol behavior Cadet."

"I know," Zormna muttered.

But Alea Arden chuckled. He stood up again, heading to Salvar. "So… I am hearing rumors about you."

Cadet Salvar blushed, wondering what it was.

Slapping him on the back, Alea Arden whispered in his ear, "I think it is a great idea that you study with the guard. If you really want to be Zeta leader, that is the way to go."

He then walked off.

Salvar got chills as he watched one of the youngest Aleas continue his inspection of the district. He then glanced back at Korven who paled. Salvar squared his shoulders, grinning.
