The point of this project is to create an E-book on a natural disaster of your choice. The following E-book will
show you an example and walk you through the information that will need to be contained on yours. Your task
is to put to use prior knowledge to answer a series of questions on a natural disaster. You will start with a cover
page that include your name and the name of your natural disaster. It should also include a picture.
The QuestionsThe questions you need to answer are the following:
What is your natural disaster? Where does your natural disaster seem to occur the most? When was the last time there was a major one? What sort of scientific steps are we taking to better monitor it? General Safety for your natural disaster.
Make sure to include pictures as you go and write down all of your sources. Your last page should be a works
cited page. The following pages will show you some examples of how to structure your pages.
My Natural Disaster is _________.Possibilities include:
Earthquakes Tsunamis Volcanoes Tornadoes Hurricanes Wildfires Landslides/Mudslides/Floods/Avalanches Where does ______ occur?Make it a point to be as specific as possible. We want a generalized affected area. For example don't just say
that Tornadoes occur in the United States; try to be exact.
The more exact you are to a particular region the more specific your research and details can be. It is very
important to be as specific as possible.
Don't try to cover to broad of an area as there will be far too much information to include on one page.
When was the last major ______.We have defined throughout the unit what a major natural disaster is. We understand the amount of
people who must be impacted by a natural disaster for it to be considered major. Do some research on when
and where the last major natural disaster of your choice occurred. Create a couple of pages to recount the
details and give as much support as possible. Talk about the area, the time, the amount of damage, what
was done, what we are still doing.
What is the impact of science on ________ today.Science is always changing. The more tools we have, the more knowledge we are able to obtain; especially
when it comes to natural disasters. We will never be able to prevent a natural disaster from occurring, but
what sort of steps can we take to monitor and inform the people.
What sort of technologies are being used to monitor the natural disaster?
What information have we found out regarding the natural disaster in the last 10 years?
Safety Procedures
If someone has to live through this natural disasters, what steps can they take to ensure their safety! One of
the things societies are doing a better job of is enabling the people to maintain safety. So, what steps are
there to take as preventative measures for your natural disaster. At the very least try describe what people
should do during, before, and after your natural disaster occurs. TRY TO BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE.
Sources/Credits
It is very important we keep track of all sources that we used. A lot of the information that you will be
included was given to you during my notes throughout the unit; you do not need to cite that. But, any other
information you used for completion of your E-book needs to be cited, including but not limited to pictures.
Your protocol for citing the sources hasn't changed from when we did PowerPoints or wrote papers.
You will need to cite all sources using APA citation. You can always use a cite like BibMe.
All my pictures were taken from Flickr, a source to utilize when looking for pictures!
