Introduction
Building Your Legacy
When we hear the word βlegacyβ, we generally associate it with numbers and measurable matters β finances, statistics, assets, and inheritance, to name a few. However, legacies go beyond the quantifiable and the concrete. Aside from your physical possessions, it also includes the intangible aspects of your life, such as your character, values, skillsets, convictions, goals, and worldviews.
To put it simply, a legacy is anything that you leave behind. It is something that stays with others even after you have gone. It is comprised of the difference you make βand your impact in peopleβs lives, whether you know them personally or not. At its core, your legacy represents all the aspects of your life that endure the passage of time.
"A good man leaves an inheritance to his
children's children." - Proverbs 13:22 (NKJV)
We also tend to associate "legacy" with old age and thus put the subject off for until later in life. It is, after all, what remains of us in the physical world when we finally meet our life's end. We often want to wait until we make millions, or until "things are working out for us. However, legacies are not instigated by old age or death, and therefore should not be postponed for later.
Ultimately, legacies are about life β and the way we choose to live it. They are like timeless classics. No matter how much time has passed, these classics endure and remain relevant. They are the stories that people always come back to for hope and inspiration. They hold significance across the age of time due to one simple reason: to this day they affect the people who come close to them.
All of us, at some point, will wonder if our lives had been meaningful to the people around us. Will our stories somehow, like those timeless classics β remain alive in others even after our death? Building a legacy intentionally is the key to securing your positive role in the lives of those who matter to you as well as fulfilling your God-given purpose.
The time to start building your legacy is now, irrespective of your age, or your current economic status. If you document, with intricate detail, the kind of legacy you want to leave behind, and the time and manner in which you want to achieve it, you will have a standard upon which to measure your progress. As opposed to working towards a vague idea of where you wish to be in a certain number of years, embarking on this legacy-building journey will guarantee you sure success in achieving your dreams - it's only a matter of time.
This book in combination with the "Legacy workbook" will help you do just that. To help you make better sense of the process, this book has been divided into two parts:
Part One: Big Steps for the Future
This part focuses on the planning phase of building your legacy. It highlights the significance of knowing what you want to achieve in the future and determine the kind of legacy you want to work towards. It ultimately leads you to ask these important questions:
What do I want to achieve?
Whom do I want to become?
Whom should it impact?
This part focuses on what you can implement today. It stresses the small things you can do each day that will eventually make a significant difference when time has passed.
This will help you answer the question of:
What do I have to do to get there?
Thinking of your legacy now will help you steer your story into the course that itβs destined to be on.

The Importance of a Legacy Mindset
Legacies usually come to mind when we are at funerals, or retirement parties. While leaving with a list of valuable assets sounds like a good way to go, legacies offer more value than just the tangible and quantifiable items. It involves making an indelible mark that will
