Could you handle a double life, being one person by day and another at night? I think that is what they call the โ€œClark Kentโ€ syndrome. How do you deal with your life when it becomes almost too much? You have to hide things from the people that you love, just to keep them safe. I once heard, be true to yourself, but can anyone really be true to ones self?
At first things seemed easy, taking on the responsibility that has been past down through generations, was just something we did. Now the only thing I can think about is, will my current boyfriend stick by me? He only knows one side of me, and shouldnโ€™t a boyfriend know all of you? I also question my friends, I have lost two already and only three remain loyal, one being my sister. It is a lot easier to have a relationship with someone who knows what is happening in your life.

The sad part is I have been lying to them all since I was ten. My current love interest, also my best friend at that time tried to understand, but I refused let him know the truth. Detention had become a ritual through the rest of middle school and some of junior high. I slept through most of my classes, and I was lucky enough if I received any passing grades on my tests. My parentโ€™s were called in; I saw several counselors and even the school psychiatrist. Yes, my parents went along with it all, just to make it look like our legacy was normal. We were far from normal.

Luckily, by the time I had reached high school I had been doing much better. I learned to take power naps before school, and directly after school. I also set aside at least another two hours to do homework, followed by a daily work out routine, and time to eat. I needed all of my energy focused on my night job. Well it wasnโ€™t a job exactly but it always felt like one.

Have you ever read a fantasy novel, and wished that you were its main character? Well, let me put things into perspective for you, donโ€™t wish it, and donโ€™t wish it upon anyone. Fantasy should be something enjoyable, but if it becomes your reality, you no longer will feel that joy.

Itโ€™s funny after you know the truth and you go and read a story that speaks of your kind. You kind of laugh and think where do these people come up with these facts?

Right now you are probably wondering what I am even talking about. Well, let me start from where things got rough.

It all started with the beginning of my senior year of high school. The first year I had gone to school hand in hand with someone, and I felt good about that. Tiredness was a thing of the past, and secrets, well they just seemed easier to keep.

During the day, I would and still do act like a normal teenager. I laughed with my friends, gossiped about boys; spoke to teachers about my future plans, I even applied to schools that I knew I would never go to. Things seemed good between the two lives, until the afternoon of the first day of school.

Dad was sitting on the deck in our backyard staring out into the woods. I opened the sliding glass door with a cup of tea in my hands, and a book. He turned around even before I had opened the door, he always knew when I was coming, I guess it was another trait from our secret.

I slid into the white lawn chair next to him, and set my tea down on the deck.

โ€œHow was your first day of school?โ€ he had asked me.

โ€œIt was actually normal, and for once that felt really good,โ€ I said to him. He nodded, and scratched his scruffy beard. Then stared back at me nervously. I had no idea what he was about to say, but I knew it would change my life; I had that gut wrenching feeling.

โ€œHoney, we need to talk.โ€ Here it came.

โ€œI know your human life is extremely important to you, and that you and Blake have taken your friendship to a higher level. I say this because it has been planned out for you since you were born and I feel that now is the right time to tell you.โ€ Okay everyone this is the part where you all cringe and pull on your hair worried for me.

โ€œOkayโ€ฆโ€ I dragged on.

โ€œWhat I am trying to say is that because of circumstances beyond my control and our ranking within the pack, I have to introduce you to the upcoming alpha male in the pack.โ€

โ€œOkay so introduce me,โ€ I replied.

โ€œNo, sweetie itโ€™s not just, Haley Marie meet Logan itโ€™s more like, Haley Marie meet your future mate,โ€ he cringed at the word.

My jaw dropped so wide I thought it was going to dislocate. I can actually still feel the pull on my face, oh-wait that is because I am doing it again. Just telling this story makes my jaw drop.

So I have given you enough hints to guess what my other identity is, do you have an answer? Well if you guessed werewolf then my friend you are correct, ding, ding, ding, you have won a prize. No, not really I was just kidding.

Although, you do win the privilege of hearing me whine, and complain about juggling two lives instead of one. You are the one who started reading, and I am guessing now you just canโ€™t stop. So once again here goes nothing, now that you know enough, I can jump right in to the best part of my story, or worst it depends on how you look at it.
