Maria!

Jose was standing in the rear of the restaurant, which was the alley smoking a cigarette while on break. As he stood there, he noticed a man down the alley in the midst of darkness accompanied by a young girl provocatively dressed stopped to have oral sex him.

โ€œProbably some young overly-sexed kid who slipped away from home to meet her man. He looks old enough to be her father.โ€ Jose thought as he discreetly glared.

When the girl finished giving him sexual pleasures, the man zipped up his pants, kissed the young girl then separately departed.

Jose Garcia was 37 years old, a single young man who often traveled from city to city. He was a loner and had no friends or family. There was only one person who meant the world to him and that was his sweet Maria. She died fighting for her life due to a bullet womb through her right temple while sitting in her swing in her backyard one afternoon. The blood from the bullet womb rapidly filled her brain, doctors tried everything they could to save her but it was too late. Maria lived in a neighborhood where gang violence was on the rise. One particular day, the warlords and the blood lords got into a rivalry, a bloodthirsty rumpus of superiority; there were shootings throughout the neighborhood. His Maria just happened to be in harm's way when a stray bullet hit her. Jose wished he could have saved her, he would have given anything even if it meant giving his own life to save hers, โ€œBut sheโ€™s gone now, sheโ€™s in Godโ€™s hands.โ€ He reminisced.

Jose worked as a cook and dishwasher for an Italian restaurant in Chicago. He would often take cigarette breaks outside the back door of the restaurant, which was an alley.

Thursday nights were family night at the restaurant when a family of four can eat for only $20. It was the restaurantโ€™s most popular night; it was the only night Jose really worked for his money.

After the crowd leaves and things started to slow down a bit, Jose washed and rinsed the dishes then emptied bags of garbage into the garbage bin out back in the alley. He stood at the door lighting a cigarette taking another quick break looking down the alley when he heard a manโ€™s voice yelled. A man was a pushing a needle in another manโ€™s arm. When the man with the needle finished pumping the drugs into the man, he turned and walked away leaving the poor man there in a sedated fix.

โ€œProbably a drug dealer giving a drug addict a much-needed fix.โ€ He thought to head back inside.

Later that night, when he finished his clean up and the last garbage bag had to be emptied into the garbage bin out back. As he inquisitively glanced down the alley, he noticed the poor guy in need of a fix was gone.

Jose rented a furnished upstairs apartment around the block from the owner of the restaurant.

It was a very small place but that was all Jose needed, after all, he hadn't planned on staying very long. After work, heโ€™d come home and lie back in his bed at night to stare at Mariaโ€™s picture. How he adored and missed her so much. They had planned to get married, buy a home and have some children. Jose would reminisce about the talks they had before she died and instantly his eyes filled with tears until heโ€™d fall asleep possessing her picture to his heart.

The next night, Jose took a break from the kitchen chores to step out into the alley to light another cigarette when he saw three men taking turns beating a man.

โ€œMan, what did he do to deserve such torture! The man probably owes them some money or something.โ€ Jose thought to toss the cigarette butt to the ground stepping on it then back into the restaurant he went.

The next day the owner of the restaurant informed Jose that he hired some help for him in the kitchen a least two nights a week when needed but preferably for Thursday nights, which was the busiest night of the week. Jose taught them everything they needed to know. Thursday night arrived and the new help jumped in there and gave their 100 percent. Everything went smooth that night but the urge for a smoke overwhelmed him when he decided to step out back for a quick cigarette break. He took his first puff leaning against the wall in fulfillment of his nicotine satisfaction when he heard a woman's scream as if her mouth was being muzzled with something. Quite appalled, he glared down the gloomy pathway, he saw two men tormenting her in a violent rape assault. She must have bitten one of the rapistโ€™s fingers because then she was able to scream out with all her might. Jose never said a word about any of the other occurrences but this time he had to do something; he couldnโ€™t take it anymore. He rushed down the alley and with all of the strength he could muster grabbed the man holding the woman down by his legs and popped his neck then threw him to the ground. The other man was still raping the woman and was about to thrash the woman with his fist to keep her from screaming when Jose quickly grabbed the manโ€™s arms and twisted them behind his back pulling them out of socket; then he kicked the man with such great force blood gushed out his mouth. There was an electrical pole near so he quickly hung him there while taking out his lighter and lit the manโ€™s hanging penis. The man cried a merciful scream while his penis was being burned. Jose was infuriated as he scolded him, โ€œNow let this be a lesson โ€œyou scumโ€ that when a woman says no, she means No!! Asshole!!!โ€

Jose emphatically helped the lady up off the ground, she was crying and quite shaken bleeding from various parts of her body. Jose took a cloth from his back pocket and wiped the blood from her nose then took off his jacket to cover her bareness.

โ€œOh thank-you, thank-you sir!โ€ The lady sobbed as she trembled from torment and torture.

โ€œYouโ€™re going to be okay!โ€ He assured her. โ€œLetโ€™s get you to the hospital.โ€

The lady was so severely bruised she couldnโ€™t walk, so Jose carried her to a nearby hospital.

Upon arrival to the hospital, they rushed her to the trauma section of ER and while he waited to make sure she was going to be okay, he immediately called the restaurant to inform his boss of what happened.

Later, the doctor came out to advise Jose that she was going to be okay and she was in observation. She suffered traumatically and there was some severe scarring of her female organs from the brutal rape attack but to relax her she had been moderately sedated. The doctor enlightened him that he could go in to see her but to keep his visit short while he made contact with her family.

Jose quietly entered the room to visit her, as she seemed to be resting peacefully. She had a few bandages on her face but overall she looked to be in pretty good shape. As he stood beside her holding her hand, he noticed, โ€œShe is a very pretty woman. Shaking his head he thought, โ€œWho would want to abuse someone so beautiful?โ€ He was pleased he came to her rescue when he did and was content that she was now in the best of care, he was about to leave her side when he glanced at the name tag on her wristband, quite awestruck, he smiled then sweetly kissed her on her forehead before leaving her room thinking.

โ€œOh dear God! Thank you! Thank you for allowing me the chance to save Maria!โ€
